1/350 Enterprise Help.

NCC-1701-B

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Ok, so i have had the model kit for years. but it has allways been too heavy to support itself, and after repairing it countless times, It just wont go back together anymore. So i am asking the people here to help me in the way of putting together some quick ideas of a ship i could build with the parts. There is the whole constitution class refit ship to use. But it must be able to stay together pretty easily. I was thinking of something based around the saucer like a smaller miranda class type thing. If anyone could help it would be great ;)

That'd be cool to bash something out at this scale. You might try to look up some ships from the Star Fleet Battles game by ADB. They have lots of TOS style cut-n-past ships using Enterprise parts. They sorta took the Franz Josef design ethic and ran with it. I bet there's something neat you might be able to TMP-ize.

As for building the model as the Enterprise, I have one too, but havn't yet built it all these years later, for lack of a proper workshop. (Soon that will be resolved, 1:350 E is something like 4th on my list) Anyway, I plan to build a custom steel armature to build the actual kit around so it'll have something tough inside to hold it together. I've busted enough of the old AMT 1:650 E's to know better than to trust those spindly pylons all on their lonesome.

(Edit: correcting unacceptably large amount of typos.)

The nacelle pylons arent the problem, the nacelles are light enough and the pylons are strong enough, its the saucer to the neck that is the problem. The completed saucer weighs nearly 1kg!

I might have better luck if I put the neck onto the saucer first. then build the secondary hull around it after.

It's amazing what sloppy hack-n-slash, cut-n-paste jobs some of those ShipSchematics ones are. I found several where basic elements like nacelles and saucers didn't align from the top view to the side view.

Check out Hobby Talk for just that armature. I bought one a few years ago when this guy was making them. Still havent built the kit though :(
