Sonic the Hedgehog 4? IN 2D?!

Has anyone else heard about this? It was first announced through GameSpot on the eve of the Dreamcast's 10th anniversary going under the codename of Project Needlemouse, and they also released a teaser trailer in which, it is blatently obvious it's a new Sonic game.

The trailer states that it's in 2D! And with the return of the old "Sega" noise at the beginning of the game. They're "keeping quiet" about it, but it's so blatently obvious that it's Sonic, including a blue blur that wizzes around the screen, and the noise of a ring when collected. Also the old Sonic title screen from the original games!! Not to mention Sonic's original name during development was Mr. Needlemouse.

They finally took advise from Capcom who released (or releasing, I'm not sure) Megaman 8, which is a 2D side scroller.

Happily, this will even be in true 1080p HD, which means it definately isn't just another DS game, but a true Sonic game! We might actually see the re-birth of great Sonic games, and a sequel most Sonic fans have been waiting for since 1994!!!

...*SQUEEEEE*

No idea, but Sega are claiming it's going right back to it's roots, which (if they're learning from Megaman) means hopefully yes!

Oh, I'd like to get my hopes up, but I'm too afraid. Sega has failed so many times with Sonic in the past that I don't think my heart could handle another letdown.

I know, that's what I thought, but I just can't help myself!

I know I know, Sonic will probably be pitted against something stupid, or they'll completely re-make Sonic 1 (which as cool as that sounds, I really don't want happening)

I doubt it, but we'll just have to wait and see. Hopefully they'll release more info at that gaming convention in London next month.

I've long since given up on Sonic. Sorry Sega, you've got to make something absolutely amazing to make me care. As of now, I have zero interest (despite checking out this thread).

I don't know why they never did this to begin with. You can make it so called 2.5D and I think people would still by loads of it.

I haven't played a Sonic game since Sonic and Knuckles. It was okay; kinda funny that you could attach it to other Sega games, but nothing special. I've pretty much avoided the games since then (there are way too many characters now!)

But if they're going back to a more traditional Sonic format, I might have to check it out. Sonic 2 is still one of my favorite games ever.

This pretty much sums me up.

I played hooky from school the day Sonic 2 was released.
