Dollhouse S1 recap thread, discussion, DVD set and unaired episode.

Re: Dollhouse S1 recap thread, discussion, DVD set and unaired episode

It's no Firefly. Don't go in expecting that level of awesome.

But it's worth spending a bit of money on I think.

Uh, you know there are other ways to see a TV show that's not being shown on TV right now besides buying it. The really obvious one is supposedly 'immoral', so I won't mention it, but how about renting it from your local DVD rental establishment?

Why spend rental fees adding up to nearly as much as the cost of buying the DVD box set in the first place?

Re: Dollhouse S1 recap thread, discussion, DVD set and unaired episode

I don't know where you rent, but where I do it's not THAT expensive. Also, the reason I recommend renting is because when you buy something you're stuck with it forever and it's a waste if you watch and don't like it enough to want to watch it again and again. So for people who haven't seen the show yet, I think it's better to rent. Then you're not stuck with it if it doesn't float your boat.

£14.99 to buy, last time I checked rentals on new titles were £4-£4.50 per disc so three discs would come to between £12 and £13.50, 1 month of LoveFilm (Similar to Netflix) £9.99. Like I said rental fees would add up to nearly as much as buying.
If you turn out not to like it you could always sell on, trade in or give as a gift to someone else, because it is just a waste of money if you end up liking it and want to buy it after seeing it.

I can't urge you to spend your money, Deckard, all I can say is that I'm so glad that I stuck with it. The initial meh episodes do have a good pay-off in the later episiodes. I feel that the later good episodes are better than the early episodes are poor, if that makes sense.

Curse you all. I'm going to have to get them now. At least they're not expensive.

I got the Blu-Ray set from America, so far I've watched the unaired pilot and Epitaph One. And shown Ghost and Man on the Street to a friend, and listened to the commentaries. Might have to watch the full season before the new one starts.

Should have brushed your hair, love. Just kidding... I think.

Heh. Turns out I accidentally saved those into our department's stock photo file. The woman who manages our website knew it was me instantly. :D

Dude, you need to keep a flash drive with you. At my last job I did that and saved stuff to it to avoid issues.

The season two debut is now just under two weeks away on September 25! I can't wait!

Re: Dollhouse S1 recap thread, discussion, DVD set and unaired episode

I'm just getting around to my Season 1 DVD set. I went through all the documentaries, "Ghost" with commentary, "The Target," & the original pilot "Echo."

I enjoyed "Echo" a lot more than the aired premiere, "Ghost." I think DeWitt's explanation of the premise is much more clear than anything from "Ghost." Also, "Echo" has a lot more funny dialogue of the type I've come to expect on a Joss Whedon show. "Ghost" just kinda sits there. The only thing about "Echo" that doesn't work for me is that it focuses too much on Ballard, by far my least favorite element of this series.

Re: Dollhouse S1 recap thread, discussion, DVD set and unaired episode

^ I haven't seen Echo yet. Prolly have to wait til I get back from my hols in a couple of weeks. It's interesting what you say about the Whedon-dialogue, because that's something that I really missed from the show at the start and noticed it when they started speaking in Joss-speak a few episodes in. They didn't seem to do that much in earlier episodes.
