NFL Football 2009

http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagot...her-out-for-the-season-with-wrist-injury.html

Ugh...Urlacher's out for the season. Sure isn't easy being a Chicago Bears fan.

Oh, LAH DEE FUCKIN' DAH. Thanks, world! It's not bad enough that Jay Cutler had to be running for his life all night because Aaron Kampman was up in his face about a second after the snap, and it's not bad enough that Des Clark took a helmet straight to his spine and still can't walk properly, that Matt Forte is having difficulty bringing His message and that Ron Turner still needs to get fucked and be run over by a fucking bus yesterday, but now Urlacher dislocates his fucking wrist! Awesome!

Fuck this noise. And now Lovie Smith is probably going to bring in Derrick Brooks because we all know how much he loves his Tampa 2 table scraps, nevermind that Brooks has probably been sitting in his recliner eating cheese doodles all fucking offseason. Shit, just find Adam Archuleta and put him in a uniform again, too, while you're at it.

Don't forget you guys have Rod Marinelli on staff this year too. I'm still not sure what that was all about...

Well, in his defense, Rod Marinelli was a hell of a defensive line coach before that little abortion in Detroit. He's already turned the Bears' D-line around -- Ogunleye, Anderson and Brown were monsters last night.

The Bears are already done. Can't say I didn't see this one coming. :p

And really, the Packers didn't impress much either. Cutler plays like shit and they still barely win.

I had to laugh at the stupidity at how virtually everyone one the Sunday morning shows put the Packers in the Superbowl. They looked "good" (The offense was "unstoppable" ) in preseason and suddenly they're the NFC favorites. :guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw::guffaw:

You think they would have learned there lesson. Last year the Lions looked fantastic in the preseason and they quickly become the NFCN favorites. Morons.

The Packers have only two real holes that I can see right now: Ryan Grant is not good at football, and Barbre is a fucking turnstile on the offensive line. Outside of that, though, they look scary good -- and Charles Woodson is a deity of a minor pantheon. I still expect them to take the North.

That said, not only does Ron Turner need to get fucked and die in a fire, but Lovie Smith can join him, after saying today that the Bears are "not even considering" moving Lance Briggs over to MLB, even though he's by far the team's best linebacker. So, it sounds like Lovie really is batshit fucking insane enough to start Hunter Hillenmeyer at MLB for fifteen games.

I'll give Hillenmeyer this much: He basically never makes mistakes. At one point, Lovie called him the team's most assignment-sound player on the defense. That said, he is -- and by his own description -- a guy who "makes up for a lack of speed with a lack of strength." He's got a pretty limited range and he's not a big hitter ... essentially, a quality backup weakside linebacker. He's going to be totally overmatched in the middle.

Sweet Jesus, Jamar Williams, get healthy and get healthy right fucking now.

wow, hell of a Pats/Bills game. Bills lost it on their own with that dumb decision to run it out of the endzone and fumble, but the Pats will take it, and still forced down 2 TDs in about a minute... :)

I swear to God, Tom Brady made a deal with the Devil.

It's the only explanation.

:scream:

Goddamn Bills. I can't even think straight I'm so upset about this loss. all he had to do was hold on to the frakkin football! and then with 45 seconds to go they can't get on the ball fast enough to get plays off? haven't they been practicing the no-huddle all friggin offseason??!?

I swear, this is like being masturbated for 3 hours and then being punched in the face instead of being allowed to finish.

It would have been better if we'd just gotten blown out like I'd expected.

A few minor opinions/observations regarding tonight's game:

1. The move to a predominantly 4-3 defense without the likes of Seymour has made us quite a bit more vulnerable to the run, but that's been countered by an improved pass rush at times.
2. The secondary is significantly better from last year's grouping. Who can forget Deltha O'Neal and Ellis Hobbs being burned on a regular basis...
3. Ben Watson can actually catch balls and not fumble them!
4. Tom Brady still needs to get comfortable pressing on his left knee for those long throws.
5. Joey Galloway might be this years Chad Jackson or Donte Stallworth. Brady just isn't comfortable throwing to him (the timing is just off...)
6. The offensive line is still iffy with their run blocking, and still being run over at times during pass protection.
7. Brandon Merriweather has significantly improved in his tackling from years past.
8. We are weakest at our Inside Linebacker position, made even more so by the loss of Jerod Mayo today (who knows for how long)...
9. The league better take a look at that first roughing the passer call (the Brady Rule). That hit was at the thighs (near waist height).

Oh, and one more thing. Judging from the Jets game this Sunday, the outcome of this upcoming game against them will show whether the Pats have the mettle to continue onwards into the playoffs. Their (the Jets) aggressive defense, when coupled with a relatively successful offense, does make me pause...

Should be interesting...

(I hate the Jets, so that's not easy for me to say)

Two awesome football games tonight. Sucks the Raiders lost, but they were a very watchable team and they hung in there. If they play like this for the entire season, it might be worth it because they are finally, maybe, moving in the right direction.

The four AFC division favorites (Indy, NE, Pitt, SD) won their respective games this week by a combined margin of 10 points.....and three of those victories were over teams with losing records last year.

Agreed, I enjoyed both games, and I was surprised by both Buffalo and Oakland tonight. It's too bad the Raiders couldn't pull off the upset, though of course I'm glad the Bills faltered at the end, too.

Can someone explain the touchdown that was called back because in the words of the official, as the player was going down, the Ball came loose. Well, He caught the ball, had it firmly tucked, had two feet down, and it crossed the plane. How is that not a touchdown?

Are you talking about the reversal of that Raiders touchdown? That was a bad call IMHO.

Interestingly enough, Benjamin Watson had an eerily similar touchdown in the Pats game that was also reviewed due to suspicions that he had lost control of the ball as he hit the ground chest first. Similar to the Raiders receiver, the ball did hit the ground, but nowhere during the play did he seem to lose control as the ball was tucked squarely against his chest with his palm firmly placed on the tip.

Yeah that's the one. Not saying it changed the game or anything, but looking back at it, is was a terrible call.

This is impressive. All 3 games that I watched this weekend were decided within the last 50 seconds of the game. NE won with 50 seconds to go and SD scored with 18. Hell, the Denver game was decided twice in the last 40 seconds with a go-ahead TD scored by both sides. I'm curious how many other games were like that. I don't think the first week of the season is usually this good.

Say what...??!? :wtf:

Granted, my coverage of the NFL is currently limited to major sports websites and a handful of blogs since my freaking Xbox died and I can't watch TV, but none of those sites made the Packers out to be SB contenders. As badly as the Bears played, the only people who think the Pack actually played well have to be the biggest fanboys on the planet. I'd call their overall game against the Bears barely above average, at best.

I guess you could call them NFC North favorites by default since the Bears (for the reasons Timby ever-so-graciously pointed out) are in a downward spiral already riddled with injuries, a distinct lack of receivers, and Ron Turner, the Vikes are average on a good day and the Lions would be wetting themselves with glee if they pull off a 4-12 season.

A win's a win. Of course it was all Cutler playing like shit, naturally our defense deserves no credit...

Not too many teams will be able to outright destroy Barbre like the Bears did with Ogunleye. The Bears are a good defense and are always hyped up to give us everything they've got. The offense will put up impressive numbers over the course of the season, don't worry. If you're so concerned with arguing with the talking heads on the morning shows, I'd love to see what your prediction is for teams in the NFC...
You think they would have learned there lesson. Last year the Lions looked fantastic in the preseason and they quickly become the NFCN favorites. Morons.
I honestly don't remember that much hype about the Lions... and I can't really speak to their preseason. As for the Packers preseason this year, the hype stems not from the 3-1 record or whatever, but from the fact that for the portions of the games where our first units were playing against the other teams' first units, we obliterated them on both sides of the ball. Sure it was all vanilla schemes, but the athleticism isn't imagined. A-Rod's near-perfect passing accuracy when he has time to throw isn't a mirage. Even with the Bears d-line bearing down (Bear down, Chicago Bears....) on him all game there was near-miss after near-miss deep, until he finally hit one on a clutch play, with significant pressure to win it.

The offensive line is definitely a weakness that can slow us down, but I doubt many teams will have as much success as the Bears did defensively against us.

My wife and I were getting so into the game in the last few minutes, the dog was getting scared from all the shouting at the TV.

Hell of an ending!
