fall TV season, which premieres are you watching?

^ What if Supernatural nerfed Satan's power, told him he was a long lost Winchester brother, then make him a good guy, then made him a bad guy again, and then nerfed the power of the one person who could defeat Satan, and then had other characters go on a separate side mission that has nothing to do with the actual plot? Would you like it more then? :)

Nope. But if they recast the roles with Zach Quinto and Milo Ventimiglia, it wouldn't matter what kind of nonsense they threw at the screen, because then at least I'd be motivated to stick around and pay attention to the plot regardless of whether I gave a flying frak about it. I just don't see the supposedly amazing drawing power of the Winchester Brothers. :rommie:

Let's face it, there ain't much difference between made-up nonsense about superpowered mutants and made-up nonsense about Armegeddon. They had it exactly right with the drooling fangirl who fawned all over Sam and inexplicably dissed Dean (despite him being the better-looking brother). There's no accounting for taste.

Milo......oh, Temis shakes head.....how can anyone find Milo Ventimiglia a more watchable actor than Ackles and Padalecki? :wtf: I'm not talking about looks. I'm talking about having an ounce of talent or charisma. It's Milo. Surly little Jess from Gilmore Girls with the floppy hair. Quinto's got some talent, but Milo..... :D Milo Ventimiglia as Dean Winchester.

What makes the "made up shit" about armageddon more compelling is the relationship of the brothers. It all boils down to them in the end. How it parallels their journey from the time their mother was charco broiled on the ceiling of Sam's nursery by a demon when Sam was a baby to Sam choosing a demon over Dean (who spent four months in hell because he made a Faustian bargain to save Sam and was tortured the entire time) and strangling him before he walked out the door with the demon. It's cool. :D Time is spent on it because the writers are invested. When Sam and Dean do nasty shit to each other, they actually interact and say nasty things to one another, (complete with knife throwing and attempted strangulation) unlike the brothers Petrelli when one brother shoots the other and then they never mention it again. Oh boy, do the Winchesters ever mention it and then some. That final scene last Thursday was brutal.

In short, the drawing power of the Winchesters isn't their looks. But yes, there are some batshit crazy Wincest writing fangirls.

Looking forward to returining

Cuz he just is. :D I dunno, I guess I like em cute and dumb. Well that makes no sense, then how can I be even more obsessed with Michael C. Hall? I like variety. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! :rommie:

What makes the "made up shit" about armageddon more compelling is the relationship of the brothers.
Which is why, if the relationship just falls flat for you, the rest of it doesn't make up for it, and there's no reason to watch.

In short, the drawing power of the Winchesters isn't their looks.
Whatever it is, if it doesn't manifest itself immediately, it ain't there. Just accept the fact that it's not something that's going to exist for everyone, and is very much a matter of taste.

There are some shows where the plotline is cleverly written to be grabby enough that it doesn't really matter what kind of chemistry any of the characters have. Lost (if you have the patience to stick with a very slowly evolving plotline); Breaking Bad; Sons of Anarchy; and Dexter really could get by without Hall as the lead character, because the writing is that strong.

Most of the shows I like have strong writing because there aren't many cases I can think of with extraordinary interpersonal chemistry and/or extraordinary lead actors. Heroes, Dexter (which doesn't need it, but has it) and Chuck (which has good episodic writing but not much of an arc) are about it.

Dexter couldn't get by without Hall. I can't agree with that at all. You need an extraordinary actor to make a serial killer sympathetic. Hall is amazing.

Sort of like Ackles and Padalecki. :p If you don't see the bond, then you don't see it. No harm done. If you'd been there during season 2, (Dean refusing to kill Sam during his possession, then punching him out instead of an angsty reunion scene at the end  was a classic) I think you'd appreciate it but c'est la vie.

Milo. Aye karumba. :wtf: At least Heroes could have had the decency to set Adrian Pasdar loose. He'd have been terrific as the second of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Titus Welliver is playing the first one. He's up very soon. :D Actually, Pasdar is the only other actor I can think of who could have pulled off the part of slimy Zachariah, the angel dick.

I could see a more modestly talented actor managing to do something with that role. Dex would probably come off as more akin to the character in the novels, who is more authentic as a serial killer (genuinely emotionless, not just a guy obviously repressing his emotions) and less sympathetic. It just wouldn't be the top-caliber show it is now. The novels are readable, after all, just not compelling.

At least Heroes could have had the decency to set Adrian Pasdar loose. He'd have been terrific as the second of the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

Pasdar should be the lead in his own freakin' show! When Heroes gets the axe, there's plenty of time for that. They'll be lucky to get another season (which they'd get based on international ratings - I guess they're still strong, given that it's the most downloaded TV series in the world).

^ I'm sure there are quite a few "intelligent" Heroes fans out there who don't ask how fugitives Hiro and Ando wound up overseas (and back again) and what they're even doing there; they just love the show for all its awesomeness and if you don't you're just a hater!

Bitching about Heroes is half the fun and when it gets really bad, 9/10th the fun. :bolian: I'm still waiting for good explanations why Peter thought it necessary to play with fire and get Sylar's power (which he never actually did anything with) and why nobody remembers his poor old Irish girlfriend. :(
