Xenophobia

Photon

Commodore
Commodore
Question-using the entirety of the Trek universe (w/special emphasis on what we gleaned from DS9), What is Trek's most xenophobic race?

Romulans
Cardassians
Founders
Breen
Some other race

Def not the Klingons or Vulcans, nor humans (even though there are some elements like 31)

There were a race of people on Voyager who were extremely xenophobic. They aged backwards so presumably they wished to avoid ridicule for a ridiculous storyline.

The Founders and Breen as the founders keep to themselves and do'nt trust anyone but the Vorta And Jem'hadar Because everyone is a 'Solid', They also go to great lengths to ensure their Homeworld is not known to 'Outsiders'.
The Breen are also very secrative and Starfleet has had hardly any contact with them.

Pretty much every alien on Voyager was extremely xenophobic, but especially Species 8472, the guys from 'Innocence', the Kazon, etc.

The Alpha Quadrant is welcoming and open-armed compared to the average alien Voyager met every week

I'm not sure you can really count species 8472 since they were yanked from a different space time continuum by those pesky Borg. Not unnaturally they were pissed off with this new place and decided it all had to go.

The Talarians and Tholians were also somewhat xenophobic. The Devore from Voyager weren't exactly all that welcoming either.

I not sure I'd list Section 31 as xenophobic, though I'd definitely put Terra Prime in that basket.

Founders. THey conquered an entire area of space because of their xenophobia.

I don't think the Founders have real competition in this category.

We don't know why the others are Xenophobic. The Founders are Xenophobic because every hand fate has dealt them has ended in the death and murder of Changelings. It reminds me of what the Female Founder told Odo. Most Changelings have had a bad experience with Solds. Odo even though he was objectified, electrocuted and despised.

Precisely.

I totally agree--Founders.

Another vote for the Founders. It's not just "we don't like or value aliens and those who are different and so we keep to ourselves", which is xenophobia shared by many Trek cultures. With the Founders it goes a step or three further; it's full-blown "all aliens are inferior due to their differences (being non-changelings), they must be controlled and subjugated in order to put a stop to the threat they pose, and if they ever resist they must be annihalated". Now that's xenophobia.

Are there fears not unfounded? Because the experience of Odo and Laas clearly shows not. The attacks on the Founders shaped their view. It's not xenophobia more of paranioa.

I'm not sure what your last sentence means, but it most certainly is xenophobia. So we know why they became xenophobic - what difference does that make? I'm not following your logic - since we know where their xenophobia came from, that means that it's not xenophobia? :wtf:

Another vote for the Founders and one for the Breen. The Founders clearly are xenophobic as has been stated already. The Breen also, since they keep to themselves and only fight when threatened (before they decided to join the Dominion). No one knows what they look like either, or whether their homeworld really is freezing cold or hellishly hot.

Don't you think the Founders and Breen getting together contradicts the idea of either being xenophobic? I thought xenophobic implies not wanting to have anything to do with any other people AT ALL under any circumstances. These people wanted to conquer other races. I thought xenophobes just want to be left alone isolated from all others.

I don't know about the Breen, but the reason the Founders wanted to conquer other races is because they feared and hated them. I don't see how that contradicts their xenophobia. Does the Founders allying themselves with the Breen (or the Cardassians) make them less xenophobic? No, because they needed allies in the war, as simple as that. It's not like they liked the Breen and wanted to build a long lasting friendship and cooperation with them.
