Best Covers

Since I started a thread about Trek covers, I decided to make another about what you think the best covers are/were?

My absolute favourite is the cover for "Warpath".

I also love the cover of my favourite book, "A Stitch in Time".

"Gods of Night" had a beautiful cover, really atmospheric and "oooooo"-worthy. :)

The Titan series, overall, has wonderful covers. I particularly like the fact that they've all kept a consistent look/design. I hope they don't change that. Taking Wing and Sword of Damocles were particularly nice.

The DS9 relaunch has had some beautiful covers, particularly the Avatar books. The concept and the cover design for Fearful Symmetry was also nice.

The Vanguard covers are all very nice, though I admit that it might be nice to feature the characters on the covers as well as the ships and station.

Fearful Symmetry has the best. But The Never-Ending Sacrifice also has a very good one.

The Destiny Books--dramatic and romantic, making the "Big Three" Captains of the tale (Picard, Riker, and Dax) look as larger-than-life heros.

Excelsior: Forged in Fire--there's just something about Sulu surrounded by FIRE!

Some of my favorites have been:
New Frontier #5 & 6
DS9: Avatar I & II
all three parts of Destiny
all three Crucible books
The Buried Age
...and The Sky's the Limit.

Last edited:
Avatar, I and II
Abyss
Demons of Air And Darkness (except for the Gateways frame)
Mission Gamma: Twilight and This Gray Spirit
Serpents Among the Ruins
A Stitch In Time
Crucible, I, II, and III
A Time To Heal
Taking Wing
Orion's Hounds
Sword of Damocles
Over A Torrent Sea
Do Comets Dream?
Unity
Rising Son
The Lives of Dax

I really like all of the Titan and Vanguard covers. The covers for most of the DS9R and the Lost Era are also pretty good. I'm also another fan of the Destiny covers, they were gorgeous.

The Never Ending Sacrifice is excellent, and I also like the Titan Covers. I also love the cover of Articles of the Federation. And though they are not my absolute favorites, the artistic, pre-Photoshop skill involved in the creation of the covers from the 80s and early 90s should not be discounted. I LOVE the painting for The Romulan Way.

I'm a big fan of Keith Birdsong's covers from the '90's. The four Invasion! covers were particular stand-outs. I really like how they fit together. I still have copies of the promotional poster distributed to bookstores that has the combined covers of all four volumes. Good stuff!

Shame the books weren't nearly as interesting as the covers. I think I only managed to finish the TOS title, back in the day. But I might get back around to reading them some day.

Indeed. It still amazes me that Keith Birdsong did those photorealistic renderings with colored pencils. Now, that takes skill.

Absolute Favourite- Warpath.
Also:
Avatar 1 & 2
The Never-Ending Sacrifice
And I liked the Mission Gamma covers- well, how they showed the whole cast, that was a good idea IMO.

Some good covers:

Collision Course
Planet X
The Sky's the Limit (Stephan Martinere is a genius)
Death in Winter
Forged in Fire
A Burning House.

There are a lot of good covers to choose from. The one I keep coming back to as a great cover is Rising Son I don't know why but that is a good cover IMO. Some others are the Vanguard covers, A Burning House, and Never Ending Sacrifice.

Not that there's ever a consensus on these things, but a lot of people, myself included, thought the DS9 book was by far the best of the Invasion books.

I forgot about A Burning House. I haven't read it yet, so I don't know how well it represents the book, but it does look amazing.

I have a soft spot for the Boris Vallejo covers from the early days. Not always the best likenesses, but powerful and quirky.

The original cover of Spock, Messiah I loved.

I also love how on the early novels they often seemed to be re-using the same picture of Spock. Check out Killing Time and Tears of the Singers...

In terms of "newer" novels, I always liked the cover of "The Lost Years."
