Batman: Arkham Asylum IS AWESOME, buy it now

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

Because of this game being incredibly good, and a legitimate contender for 2009 Game of the Year, I have thusly changed this thread title.

so far it's the best console game i've played this year... i'm not sure if it's the best game i've played this year... i need to spend more time with it before i decide if it'll knock Plants vs. Zombies from the top spot.

I wonder what Yahtzee will have to say. Probably something involving bollocks, Branston Pickle, and gays. ;)

Man, even Yahtzee should be hard pressed to find some fault with this game. It's simply everything I ever could have wanted in a Batman game.

Oh and may I just add that fantastic gameplay aside, Conroy and Hamill absolutely make this game. It's like reliving my childhood, where Batman: The Animated Series was the event of the week. Conroy will always be my Batman and Hamill will always be my Joker. It's their voices that I hear whenever I read a comic book, so hearing them here, just makes me smile.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

Best game I've played all year. Reminds of a cross between Metroid and Assassin's Creed. The Riddler riddles are fun as hell too. The part with The Scarecrow were just brilliant.

Throw in a bit of Splinter Cell there, and you've got yourself a perfect mash-up metaphor for this game.

God I love the combat. I just broke 100k in Sewer Bat (Extreme) and I think I can do 150k.

Pro-Tip: Quick-tap the batarang when there are two guys left and then ground takedown them. At the end of a combo, those are worth huge points (72 Combo X 100 Points X 2 Guys = A lot of points).

Does anyone know how to use the batclaw in combat? It's the last move I need to figure out to get the achievement for using all of my moves in one combo.

The Scarecrow parts are my least favourite so far.

I wish I had either of two things right now:

1.) A new laptop, since I need one for school now, but more importantly because I can't do much with this 5-year-old relic in terms of high-end games.

2.) A 360, because the PS3 isn't as widespread as the 360 and most of my friends have it.

I'm kinda torn about it ATM, because I'd LOVE to have customized costumes and character models courtesy of the PC, but having a 360 would allow solid online play as well as DLC and fast updates (though I'm guessing that the PC version would have these features too, but I don't know.)

Thoughts?

I really liked the Scarecrow parts... especially the last one (not going to spoil it and say how many there are).

I don't want to be too negative about this game because it's awesome and all, but the Scarecrow parts have the great game does something different badly that really stands out problem a lot of games have had lately.

I wish games would stick to their core gameplay more.

If you're talking about Batman specifically, I don't think there is online play other than leaderboards.

^There isn't any.

The PS3 version is arguably the one to get if you have one as you get the PS3-exclusive Joker challenge maps.

Ditto, and yes, the last one is fucking brilliant!

On the 360, the batclaw can be quickly used by tapping the right trigger. If you're talking the PS3 I don't know what the equivalent would be, but I should be on the opposite button of the batarangs?

And USS Mariner mentioned online play...while there's nothing now, wouldn't it be awesome if the DLC was the ability to do a Batman/Robin team up in challenge maps? Hell, doesn't need to be Robin...there are a crapload of Batman family options. With some awesome team-up combo moves or something. Ah, dreaming is a wonderful thing.

I'd like it better if one of the challenges was to beat the crap out of Robin

Yeah, but that would be PS3 exclusive.

I have... got it in the story mode, but the easiest place to do it is probably the Sewer-Bat (Extreme) map as it has a ton of guys and only one knife-wielder in the four rounds.

Just before you start, say "I am the Goddamn Batman!" and you will get it. :p

There are not many PC games that can tempt me into to buying them on launch (the last ones were Fallout 3 & Orange Box) however, after playing to demo and hearing all the positive feedback I think I might go for this one as soon as it hits the shelves.
See normally I like to wait a year or two so all the bugs are patched and the price is about 1/4 of what it stated at. ;)
