Things in Season One we never heard or saw again...

In Encounter at Farpoint, Picard says, "Captain's Log, Supplementary..." That is the only time I've ever heard him say anything other than 'Supplemental'.

I almost forgot Picard says in "Farpoint" printout only all stations all decks...where the hell are the printers?:scream:

I always wondered about that too. Printout on what? Paper?!?! Do they still use paper in the 24th century? Or did he mean on data pads. I really don't understand that one.

I always figured he meant to print out text on the monitors as opposed to giving verbal instructions over the intercom. As with his typed instructions to Deanna at the helm in Nemesis, I figured it was a way of sending information more securely.

That was my interpretation as well.

Don't have much to add... I just wanted to say great thread. :techman:

Season one was littered with bizarre oddities. I loved how Picard hated the sound of red alert that first time. "shut off that damn noise! Go to yellow alert."

There's a lot of music in season one. You know, tons of incidental, OTT music.

-The past amnesia thing. In 'Home Soil', when they're debating whether or not inorganic material can qualify as life, did everyone not read about the Horta a century prior?

-Season 1 had this odd amensia about the past. There is a reference to TOS in 'The Naked Now' by Data. One would think that the information he was relaying was hundreds of years old. Like they never heard of the original Enterprise.

Yes, but how many of us remember some minute detail about a passing incident in history, especially something that happened nearly 100 years ago?

History now isn't the same as history in the 23rd century; everything is recorded for report, kept in computer records even in the 23rd century. 24th century computers should have that all, and Data has the capacity to hold outstanding amount of information.

I liked it, especially since Picard had his own theme for the first two season that was based on McCarthy's alternate TNG theme.

Yes, and that theme was heard in some third-season episodes as well. Perhaps its most spectacular use ever was in the climactic moments of "Yesterday's Enterprise," when Picard vaulted the rail and kept on firing as the ship fell apart around him. That musical moment sends a chill through me just thinking about it.

Yes, that has to be my favorite Picard moment in all of TNG.

Long thread...

didn't read them all.

In 'Encounter.....' the crew stops and comes to attention when Picard walks by.

Check out the opening sequence in engineering.

Picard's mother, seen only in Where No One Has Gone Before. She is mentioned a few more times, and we later see his father in Tapestry. -- RR

Paper?!?! Do they still use paper in the 24th century?

There was a few times:

There was a DS9 episode where Jake used paper for writing a novel.

Janeway used paper to write her log in "Scorpion" Part 2 albeit on the Holodeck running the da Vinci holo-program

Chaoktay used paper in "Unforgetable" to write about his experience, so he wouldn't forget it.
