Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) has been assigned to direct the big-screen adaptation of the popular video game BioShock, filing the director's chair vacated by Pirates of the Caribbean helmer Gore Verbinski.
Verbinski, who had been originally developing the film as director, willingly dropped out due to the studio's plan to film abroad which conflicted with his directorial duties on the animated film Rango.
I'm actually kind of thrilled over this news. While Verbinski is a very strong filmmaker (I prefer his quieter films like The Weather Man over his Pirates opuses), Fresnadillo has a very strong visual sense (see Intacto) which BioShock really needs.
The only depressing part? John Logan wrote the script.
