Series 5 - Set reports and spoilers thread

^ Yeah, particularly with that big round sensor thingy up top. However, I will say that I quite like that library design.

The "big round sensor thingy" would actually be the "power unit." It was part of the original console room, and it's a part of the current version as well, although it's attached to the console now via the time rotor.

The inestimable Canterbury on DWF has posted a spoiler summary for the specials. Here is a cut-down version (really!), in two parts without the references and links etc:

Schedule

Remaining specials are 60, 60 and 75 minutes long. RTD: “No exact date yet but 4.16 will be seen before Christmas" (“not Halloween” and "probably one in Novemberish") followed by "a huge two-part finale at Christmas".

Locations and sets

RTD: Each special is very different and the locations are very different; that (after PotD) there would be visits to four more planets. (It appears that the only filming outside the UK for the specials is that done for "Planet of the Dead" in Dubai.)

EPISODES

4:16 The Waters of Mars Written by Russell T. Davies and Phil Ford Directed by Graeme Harper
Companion: Lindsay Duncan (Adelaide)
Cast: Peter O' Brien; Chook Sibtain; Aleksander Mikic; Cosima Shaw; Gemma Chan; Michael Goldsmith; Alan Ruscoe; Sharon Duncan Brewster; Paul Kasey

Characters, Villains and Casting Information

Diana Chire has been cast as "Allegra" in a 2009 production of DW, directed by Graeme Harper. No confirmation, so not added to cast list.

Lindsay Duncan will play the companion role; she will play Adelaide – the Doctor's cleverest and most strong-minded companion yet, who is head of the Mars Base and doesn't take kindly to an uninvited appearance by The Doctor.

Peter O’Brien plays Ed, Adelaide’s second-in-command, and the main villain; Gemma Chan will be playing "Mia Bennett" (also a villain); Alan Ruscoe playing ‘Andy Stone’.

Paul Kasey seen on set (Victoria Place) playing Ood Sigma.

"Other crew members are called Yuri, Ed and Mia, and the Wall-E robot is called Gadget."

The characters from this episode do not carry over into the two-part finale; though "there's a very strong link between the last three specials. It's not a three-parter, but there's a strong connection." (RTD)

Plot
Treatment for the second special contains the words 'oxygen', 'probe' and 'tree'. The script contains the words 'Emily', 'pipes', 'carrots', 'legend', 'gadget' and 'concerto' and the phrase 'the map of the Water Snake Wormholes'. Phil Ford described his script as "scary, dark and claustrophobic". The monster is called ‘The Flood’, though we don't find out what the monster is (as in Midnight).

Adelaide's daughter back on Earth is called Emily. The base is on Mars, not in space above it, and the TARDIS lands there and the Doctor is arrested by the robot before the titles roll.

Set reports
Night filming in a quarry: The TARDIS is all lit up and there is some action involving a number of naked flames (inside some type of structure). Some kind of caterpillar tracked machine or robot gliding through the flames. As it glides through there is an explosion.

Filming in a quarry: DT (or someone very like him!) is present, and wearing an orange spacesuit (as last seen in "The Impossible Planet"). A HUGE (and VERY loud) explosion, which formed a giant mushroom cloud and left a huge black smoke ring in the sky. Man in orange spacesuit as seen in Impossible Planet, almost certainly DT's stunt double, runs away from the explosion (in this case, green screen). He jumps on a trampoline and lands on a crash mat. Man in said spacesuit wakes up amongst a load of rubble. And slowly walks forward. This looks like it is DT (sideburns visible through the visor).

Victoria Place, Newport: Filming is on a snow covered Victoria Place. Street signs report this is a congestion charge zone with fines of 3000 yen, and also that it's a low emissions zone, hydrogen powered vehicles only. No Christmas trees or decorations in evidence; all windows are lit but draped. Filming features DT (blue suit), Lindsay Duncan and two others, Emma Chan and a young man. The clothes of the companions have a 'guerilla/freedom fighter' look; LD carries a small holster with a gun on her belt.

Filming also features a large white and silver robot (looking much like the one from the Taffswell quarry filming interacting with the four. The robot has "GADGET" written on its front. Snow is lying on the ground as DT and the other three step out of the Tardis. Doctor: "Aww it's snowing, I love snow!" The other male actor holds out his hands to feel it falling and says 'It's not snow...'

LD goes up the steps of one of the houses. DT flashes his sonic at the house. A blue light flashes for an instant in the house's window. "In the filming we are trying to suggest 10 Victoria Place is an empty property. It should feel quite dark and lonely".
AN OOD! Paul Kasey dressed as Ood Sigma. He doesn't interact with anyone, he just seems to appear.
DT goes back to the TARDIS, Two versions shot - one where he just opens the door and goes in, the other where he hears something, turns, looks a bit non plussed then turns the other way (towards the right, past the robot), sees something and collapses slowly to his knees (facing the robot). He then gets up, goes to the door of the TARDIS, looks straight out and then goes in and bangs the door shut. Ood Sigma was not in these scenes. Whatever the Doctor was looking at was not present at time of filming.

4:17TITLE TBA / 4:18 The End of Time Written by Russell T. Davies Directed by Euros Lynn

Characters, Villains and Casting

Captain Jack confirmed (by DT) as returning; as is John Simm’s Master.

Bernard Cribbins announced as Wilf, who is the Doctor’s companion (also seen on set). Catherine Tate (Donna), Jacqueline King (Sylvia), June Whitfield (‘Minnie Hooper’), David Harewood confirmed (and also seen on set). Alexandra Moen is back as Lucy Saxon.

Claire Bloom originally seen on set; claima she is "playing the intergalactic Time Lord's mother."

Jessica Hynes seen on set. The "bookshop" filming strongly suggests her character is Verity Newman. Images of her book "The Journal of Impossible Things" suggest a link between her character and the events of "Human Nature".

Billie Piper and Camille Coduri seen on set - "Powell Estate" filming strongly suggests they’re playing Rose and Jackie Tyler.

Elisabeth Sladen and Tommy Knight seen on set - "Bannerman Road" filming strongly suggests they're playing Sarah-Jane and Luke Smith.

Karl Collins and Barry Howard seen on set; Russell Tovey (Midshipman Alonzo) seen going into filming.

Timothy Dalton confirmed. "To play a baddie in one of David Tennant’s final episodes" says The Sun. Seen in a leaked photo wearing Timelord robes with the seal of Rasillon. RTD said that footage screened at Comic-Con included the voice of Timothy Dalton as the Narrator.

Sinead Keenan is confirmed by her agent as appearing in the finale. Lawry Lewin is playing a "geeky" character in a "pivotal role" in the finale, "his character is said to provide ‘a bit of a comedy turn’" and is also apparently an alien. Roger Bailey cast as a "Time Lord" and "Leader of Council". Sylvia Seymour cast as Miss Trefusis. Teresa Banham cast as "Governor".

Plot

The script for this episode contains the words The Gate, Naismith, Partisan, Carnival, Beijing and the phrase "something is coming". "Dark forces are gathering. The Gate is waiting, and life will never be the same again." RTD: "It's not quite as easy to guess what's happening as you think - there's nightmare sequences, and layers of fantasy, because the Doctor's coming to the end of his time.

"RTD and co are wanting to go out not only with a big bang but an emotionally challenging episode. So not only is Ten regenerating but the companion for the two episodes will also die at the end of the episode."

DT: "But that's going to come back in a big way in the final stories. The Doctor being the last of his kind, or nearly the last of his kind." "He's making hard choices and he's riddled with remorse for what happened to his people and the part he played in that. Which we'll learn a little bit more about before I disappear. Not that much, just a little. It's not a three-part miniseries starring Paul McGann. I think he's tortured. He travels time and space trying to make it better—literally, it's like he's the Doctor--and then the consequences of that are not always as he'd wish them to be."

DT: "The Doctor himself is also slightly on the run from himself, and on the run from the inevitable, so he's trying not to get too close to anyone. So, it's important that there is a revolving door of confidence for him. But, getting to see BC in that final story is so brilliant and moving. He's just such a great actor, and that was a great finish to the story, for me. You get these wonderful scenes of these two old men. The Doctor is a lot older than Wilf, and yet the two of them get to sit down and discuss life in a way that we've never seen the Doctor be able to do before."

"The "Part One" cliffhanger is "on a par" with that of "The Stolen Earth"."

Alien Invasion?
Set reports noted scenes in which David Harewood looks at the sky and falls to his knees; plus scenes outside Donna's house where people look at the sky and panic, and later seem relieved.

RTD: "And then, that final story becomes epic, almost like a fairytale. But, it's really intimate, at the same time. It's got funny little aliens with green spikey faces, running around."

There is supposed to be a "'something' species.

Lewin's character is apparently an alien, though not necessarily a monster or involving prosthetics.

Knock Four Times?
"You be careful, because your song is ending, sir. It is returning, it is returning through the dark. And then... oh, but then... he will knock four times." - Carmen's warning to the Doctor, PotD

Julie Gardner: And as we know, David, he really does knock four times.
DT: Yeah, absolutely, and if you think you've figured out what that means, you're wrong!
JG: But when you do figure it out, it's a sad day.

"1. The Master doesn't regenerate. 2. Neither does he knock."

A time of Time Lords?

THE MASTER
Photographed on set wearing a black hoodie and with bleached blond hair.

"We won't see the Master until the final specials... water (or liquid of some sort) is involved in his... 'reconstitution'. No clones AFAIU. Unless Miss Trefusis has added something else to the mixture. "

Daily Star: The Master and battles the Doctor until one dies, resulting in a new Doctor.

There will be two regenerations - both the Doctor and Master regenerate. Neither wins, neither loses, but the how and why are a closely guarded secret. John is reported as telling a source, "I'm David's Master... I think if he goes, I should too... the thought of us being inseparable even at the end, when we die, is a great idea. It's how it should be!

The Master returns with the help of Harriet Jones, who originally picked up the ring, was in league with the Master at the time of "TSE", was not alone when using the Copper network and was not killed. She and the Osterhagen key play into the finale and something in the specials fulfils what the Ninth Doctor said about HJ's terms as prime minister heralding a golden age. Is Harriet alive? Phil Collinson says yes, RTD says no, Penelope Wilton says maybe.

The Master is trying to be "the saviour" of the Time Lords.

There is apparently a scene in one of the Specials where the Master creates a new world which he shows to the Doctor, who responds in horror 'BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THE PEOPLE???'

LUCY SAXON
"Don't worry: Lucy (as we knew her) is back ... sobbing in a 'dungeon'... witnessing the 'reconstitution' of her hubby (which comes as rather a shock to her!). Although how long she survives beyond his return I don't know! As for the ring - wasn't Lucy already in custody when we saw 'the hand'? Other parties must be involved - my money is on the mysterious Miss Trefusis..."

"that if a wife has any common sense she will want to keep her eye on her husband, particularly if she's from something beginning with 'G', she has been asked her to do so and her husband's the Master " Specifically "The info I have is that she is a time lord agent and put in place to keep tabs on the Master. " "Think [...] that hand being Mrs Master"

OTHER TIMELORDS
"think ...flash backs to gallifreyan war rooms at the height of the time war at the start of the penultimate story with the time lords resurrecting the Master to send him in vs the Daleks - James Bond [Timothy Dalton] as the President of the Time Lords ....the sound of drums being a way for the time lords to keep track of their secret weapon [the Master] who they send in vs the Dalek emperor .... the time lords doing a time hop, skip and a jump when the signal goes dead...can you guess why the signal goes dead...does the title of a recent Killers track [Human] come to mind?”

The TARDIS destroyed
Set reports on filming of the 2010 specials that the TARDIS exterior has changed.

"the TARDIS is destroyed at the end of specials and Matt Smith's Doctor has to grow a new one - the exterior is back to classic TV series Unearthly Child era (NOT the Cushing movie version), with white windows and St John's ambulance apparel - the interior has roundrels and is split on two levels, console room and lab")

"-the regeneration occuring just outside the TARDIS while it is dematerialising causing it to crash and be destroyed." "… the TARDIS does explode during lift off. The Doctor is inside and it is destroyed around him."

The Regeneration

Suggested causes of the regeneration: The Master. The Doctor will battle the Master until one dies; the TARDIS, and "I might drop an anvil on his head. Or maybe a piano. A radioactive piano" (RTD teasing again).

RTD said that he couldn't really talk about the regeneration without...talking about the regeneration (and hence the end of his final show), but that would be different but similar to previous regenerations. As to specifically how... RTD said that the 8 year-old viewer is now used to regenerations standing up (with the implication being that that would be how DT would go). "Let’s just say that regeneration is a complicated process, and never as simple as it seems.”

"It wont be the cause of what may occur at the end of the last special but what happened at the end of the Stolen Earth WILL play a big part after his battle with the Master....with regard to what happens next and the difference in this change"

DT: "I think this Doctor likes being this Doctor. He's raging against the dying of the light. And, that's the beat that we play. That's the story. He knows that the sands of time are running out. He's been told. And, the bell is tolling for him, and he doesn't want to go quietly. That's how we play that."

When asked if he was having any steer in Matt's character, RTD said, "Absolutely none. I wouldn’t want to write a single word for him. When he appears, every word will be written by Steven Moffat. He’s Steven’s, and Matt’s, character." As for the regeneration, will there be a dry eye in the house? RTD: "I should f***ing think not!", DT: "Well, I cried (when I read it)." As, apparently, did Murray Gold.

Matt Smith has "a full scene" in "Part Two"."

Part 2 -

Set reports

Blackwells Bookshop, Cardiff University Union

Location is dressed with signs for a book "The Journal of Impossible Things" by Verity Newman. There are strips across some of the signs saying "signing here today" Episode 18, Scene 155. In a bookshop a queue of customers wait to have their copies of "The Journal of Impossible Things" signed by the author (Jessica Hynes). The next customer steps up - it's the Doctor. They have a short conversation, then he turns and walks away.

Tredegar House, Newport

Scene: recorded inside the stables (dressed with hay). Scene: DT & BC run out of the stables looking anxious. Scene: men in black combat gear and helmets patrolling.

House exterior is dressed with not very festive looking wreaths on either side of the door, and two cars with (fake)vanity plates parked outside - a Jag with the plate "ABI1" and a Bentley with "JNS1".

Scene: people (footmen, people in white coats, guards) run out of the House in a panic, pointing at the sky. Scene: David Harewood comes out of the House and falls to his knees staring at the sky. A woman (Abigail. His wife?) stops beside him and then runs on.

As before - wreaths on either side of the door, and two cars with (fake)vanity plates.

Episode 18, scene 130: black-clad guards patrol in front of the house. The wind machine is simulating the effect of a SPACESHIP LANDING ON THE LAWN.

At the end of filming, there were "two women who exited the front of the house with coats over their heads: they were medium height, slim, and appeared to be wearing matching white lab coats, black trousers, shoes with medium heels."

Nant-Fawr Road ("Donna's house")

BC (brown jacket, red hat, antlers) walks towards the TARDIS.
BC sitting dejected on doorstep of Donna's house. DT appears from the TARDIS and throws a stone to get BC's attention. BC says (indicating the TARDIS), "You can't park that there, Donna will see it!" DT says something like "I lost him". He asks if BC has had any unusual experiences, BC replies that Donna had a funny turn when she saw the book. The book referred to is "Fighting the Future" by Joshua Naismith (photographed on set), and the cover features David Harewood.
scene: BC tells the Doctor he's "a chicken"
Scene: BC talks on a military radio to UNIT (as if he's involved in a military operation).
Scene: DT and BC go towards the TARDIS. DT doesn't want BC to come with him into the TARDIS BC protests, "I'm not staying here with her!", indicating Jacqueline King (Sylvia). He gets into the TARDIS and as he does so JK follows the Doctor into the middle of the road, shouting, "Bring him back! Bring my father back!". She continues to shout at the TARDIS as it disappears in a flurry of leaves. JK turns to look at the house as CT appears (long teal cardi, purple top, same as 10th April 2009 filming). CT: "Are you shouting at thin air again Mother?
Various scenes of DT and BC going into and out of the TARDIS.
DT & BC in the rain outside the TARDIS. Just before he goes DT says, "This is not the end, we will meet again." BC then asks him where he's going. DT then says something like "I am off to have my revenge" and goes into the TARDIS.
Scene: DT, BC and Jacqueline King (Sylvia) leaving out of the back of Donna's house.
Scene: (139) on the street a crowd mill about in panic, looking up at the sky. Directions given were "Look into the sky, there's a red ball of flame. You're scared, more scared!!!!!! It's all gone grey." During this scene one man (believed to be Karl Collins) shouts "Donna!".
Scene: (147): close-up on Jacqueline King (Sylvia) looking half-happy, half-tearful. The crowd in the background are now hugging.
Indoor filming in "Donna's House" - Donna screaming and shouting, "I'm scared, I'm scared"

DT exiting the TARDIS

Clinton Road, Penarth ("Bannerman Road") & Victoria Road, Penarth

Episode 18, Scene 153: Luke (Tommy Knight) is walking along the street talking on his phone. He steps out into the road; the Doctor appears, grabs him and saves him from being run over. Shocked, TK recognises his rescuer, and they talk. DT turns to go, TK runs across the road shouting, "Mum! Mum!". Sarah-Jane (Elisabeth Sladen) runs out of the driveway. TK says "Mum, it's him. It's the Doctor". TK and ES stand and watch the Doctor walk back to the TARDIS. As DT reaches the TARDIS he turns and looks at her and ES starts to cry.
Filmed in the alley off Clinton Road. The alley was dressed with red bin bags to suggest London. Christmas decorations were visible spilling out of the bags and there was a plastic Santa face on one gateway. Three crash mats were present. Filming was not seen but the actors were seen leaving afterwards: Catherine Tate (in purple and teal - same as 6th April filming), John Simm (carrying a human mask with white hair), an actor dressed in a suit and bow-tie and an actor with bleached white hair.

13th April 2009, Portland Street, Swansea

Scene: Filming inside the bank, renamed "London Credit Bank" for the occasion.

The Port Of Cardiff

Filming on piles of rubble - someone in a long brown coat (probably DT) and someone with bleached hair in a hoodie (John Simm?)

Wookey Hole Caves (Somerset)

Filming with DT and extras dressed in monk's robes (see Tiger Tiger filming below).
Filming was apparently planned for the Witches Parlour.

Penarth

The Hayes and St John's Church, Cardiff

Set-up of lights (street and church), blow-up santas, decorations and golden starts, golden bows in Waterstones' window display and a 40-foot Christmas tree.
The set is also being dressed with 3,000 Yen fine signs (as seen in the TWoM shoot, Victoria Place), Underground signs and red litter bins, and the streets are washed down. A Salvation Army Band were playing "God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen".
Scenes shot appear to be early in the first episode: scene 17/5A.
Shot close-up on Christmas star on top of the Christmas tree, pulling out to the Salvation Army band, panning around to smiling shoppers and a small girl with her mummy and daddy meeting (real live human) Santa Claus. The shot moves down the street and picks up Wilf, out shopping and apparently lost in thought. As he approaches the Salvation Army band his attention is drawn to them (or something in their direction - possibly Waterstones window display?). He mutters to himself and seems to come to some conclusion (and walks out of shot). BC then walks forward checking something out ahead and/or above him… shoppers continue to mingle about him and the Sally Army continue to ‘play’ in the background.
There were shots done through LED lights - atmospheric or alien-eye view?

Caerphily Castle

Filming in the Inner East Gatehouse - specifically the Constable's Hall (grand and newly refurbished) and Broase Gallery (a narrow passageway above the Great Hall). All interior work.
Danny Hargreaves is there (BANG!), a green screen went in, as did the reflective globe they use for CGI reference.
Two supporting actresses in matching white blouses, black trousers, chunky black shoes. One was blonde, one with black hair. Reminiscent of the two who left Tredegar House with coats over their heads, white labcoats, black trousers and chunky shoes
Trailer sign (presumably relating to this shoot) - "Governor".

Cardiff City Hall

Bleached-haired actor seen in Penarth on-set (not JS, another one).

BP answers, "Try and stop me!" BP comes around the corner and runs into the Doctor who is clutching the wall. BP: Are you alright, mate? DT: What year is it? BP: 2005 DT: You know what? I bet you're going to have a really great year.
The Doctor lying in the snow on the Powell estate in front of a red-eyed Ood Sigma.

SJA

DT is to appear. RTD says, "This is a full-on appearance for The Doctor as he and Sarah Jane face their biggest threat ever"; the episodes are "extraordinary, wild and powerfully moving," and, "let's just say that the wedding of Sarah Jane will be a day for everyone to remember!"
K9 will also feature. The episode will be written by Gareth Roberts.
DT said that the episode he is to appear in is called "The Wedding of Sarah-Jane".

Canterbury also did a spoiler summary for the Matt Smith series, updated by Minmi, the cut-down version of which:

SHOWRUNNER AND TEAM:

RTD leaving and Steven Moffat as Lead Writer/show runner for the 2010 series (reported the series is tied in to series 9, and SM has a 5 year contract). Other executive producers are Beth Willis and Piers Wenger; producers are Tracie Simpson and Peter Bennett; their contracts running from April 2009 until June 2010. Talk of Murray Gold leaving and that he’sbeen asked to stay

Costume designer Ray Holman's website includes credits for Dr Who, 13 Episodes, Stars Matt Smith

The Mill have the contract for special effects for this series.

Format and scheduling

Julie Gardner mentions a series return with thirteen episodes. SM says he has fourteen episodes of Who to do.

Series 5 will be shown in "Spring 2010"

In the series 4 boxset commentaries, SM says that he prefers two-parters but that this will not affect how he approaches the series He has also said that the current pattern of three two-parters was a good balance and it was hard to imagine straying too much from that. SM has a broad overarching plan for the season

The BBC are not renewing any licences due to "massive changes for the relaunch".

"The new series of Doctor Who will be produced and promoted as series 1". The new series is HD.

Arumour going around *ITV* that the next series might be "split", with half shown in spring 2010, and half in the autumn.

FILMING DATES:
A distinct possibility they'll film the 2010 Christmas special in April 2010 immediately after series 5.

LOCATIONS, SETS AND PROPS

The TARDIS console room will be getting a new desktop theme for 2010. "It will be the most high-tech, intricate Tardis ever.". The new console room will be twice the size of the current one, that it will be white with roundels and will be a mix of the current interior and the original (Hartnell) and that there would be an update to the Police Box exterior. The latter confirmed by set reports - it looks like "the Hartnell version", with white window frames and the St John's Ambulance sign. The sonic has also been redesigned.

WRITERS:

The series has 16 scripts commissioned, with two different outcomes.

STEVEN MOFFAT: SM expects to write 5 or 6 episodes.
MARK GATTISS: "busy writing episodes of the next full season of Doctor Who.” GARETH ROBERTS: down for one episode in "series V".
NEIL GAIMAN: A persistent rumour which the man himself seems to be enjoying. He has said that IF he is doing a DW episode he'll confirm it first on his blog. Right now he's confirming/denying nothing (except he's had dinners with SM).
JACK THORNE (SKINS): Reported as a writer for either series 5 or 6.
AMANDA COE: Writing for DW.
ROB SHEARMAN: Writing a Doc-lite episode for S5.
TOBY WHITHOUSE: Writing for DW.
STEPHEN FRY: Script originally written for S2, but later abandoned due tologistical difficulties, may be resurrected.

Alternatively: All the rumoured returning Who writers are wrong - no Cornell or Shearman, Gatiss or Roberts; S5 may use writers with established connections to Hartswood, Sue Vertue's (Mrs Moffat's) production company.

DIRECTORS:

ADAM SMITH (LITTLE DORRIT/SKINS): Appears to be directing Block 1 (Episodes 4/5?) - see below.
STEPHEN HOPKINS (LOST IN SPACE/24): Rumoured to be directing Episode 1.

Suggestions that all-new directors will be used throughout S5.

PLOTS/STORYLINES:

SM confirms that there will not be a series of "Blink"-type stories, "[Y]ou couldn't have a whole series like that [...] You can't have that as the first episode. It's just too grim. So it's different contemplating it from this position, very, very different." The series will also continue to embrace a wide range of tones and genres, Moffat said. Rather than adapting the show to his particular writing style, he looks forward to experimenting with different voices to maintain the show's variety, and writing in different styles himself

SM has said he thinks the Doctor works best when solving problems rather than fighting armies, that the Doctor has always been a sexy, flirty character, albeit one who doesn't pursue love interests. Also... It makes no sense, especially when you look at what I was praised for...They'd say "It will be great when Moffat takes over, because there won't be so much romance, there won't be all that soapy stuff, there won't be all this comedy..." But I do all those things, even more than Russell does! And I've got the record for gay jokes.

There will be returning monsters: "Steven talked about the future in terms of... well, to the extent that I said 'Don't tell me any more!' I want to find out as a viewer. I was even surprised, because I was half-expecting there to be a No Old Monsters rule under The Moff. But no. So that felt good." (RTD)

Plot Rumours
Rumour that the companion would turn out to be a Zygon, "Zygon infiltration horror for the Doctor". Also rumour that "the guys who did Walking With Dinosaurs have been asked to help design and create a CGI Skarasen for Season 5". "There is a Zygon script but it is not a two parter, surprisingly only 1 episode"
Suggestioned adaptation of Gattis' "Nightshade".
Story based in the Natural History Museum, where the Doctor will battle “a strikeforce of Hitler’s stormtroopers, not to mention rampaging monsters”, and “there would be an Indiana Jones type chamber hidden beneath the floor with sliding stone doors and stuff.” Sounds like the Gattis script which was dropped from series 4.
Ice Warriors with suggestions that sculpting has been done for an Ice Warriors, Ice Lord and "something else from Mars".
Daleks - the rumours are that if they are back in series 5 it will be in a two-part opening story, possibly set in Edwardian Britain (and probably that would be their only appearance)
Rumour that the enemy who will reveal themselves in the series denouement will have been in every episode of series 5.
Weeping Angels - a sequel to Blink is in the works - the angels may be out for revenge.
A return for the Time Lords en masse, with a new series setup in which the Doctor's "on the run", and the Time Lords are attempting to restart the Time War.

The following were suggested for the specials but do not seem to be appearing, so possibly series 5? :

Winston Churchill: apparently TV people asked for his removal from "Revenge of the Judoon" so he could be kept in reserve. Sources suggest Albert Finney will play Winston Churchill.
"The return of The Sea Devils is definitely planned and all preliminary work has long since been concluded." "Top quality moving mouthed, blinky moving eyed, NETTING clad Sea Devils", backed up by "CGI Myrka". Sea Devil masks have been provisionally designed and sculpted, and a CGI Myrka is in the initial stages of development.

CASTING:

Matt Smith is the Eleventh Doctor. Set reports indicate that the trousers rolled up are a feature of the costume, that he has leather patches on his jacket sleeves, and braces (=suspenders US). His character is somewhere between Tennant and Eccleston?

The Companion
Karen Gillan is Amy Pond, the new companion - possibly non-contemporary (Edwardian maid), no romantic interest in the Doctor, from Scotland.

Supporting Cast

Cast Rumours

Kylie to return?
Rumoured negotiations to get back Georgia Moffett (Jenny) for series 5. RTD: "I've no plans. But who knows what Steven might do?”
Tom Baker (unknown role)
Gillian Anderson - playing the Rani.
A hunt is on for a young red haired, dark eyed girl aged 7 to be cast for series 5
Patrick Stewart as the Monk?
Mike Skinner from The Streets? The singer twittered news that he'd got a part in Doctor Who.
Guto Harri? Rumour that the Welsh news reported has been cast in a cameo as a cabinet member.

EPISODES

1.1 TBA

Written by: Steven Moffat. Rumour that Stephen Hopkins ("Lost in Space," "24") is to direct this episode.

RTD: It starts "literally one second later" than the regeneration story.

"You'll never be in your house again." - from podcast for "Forest of the Dead"

Rumours
"The opening episode is very much Amy's story with the Doctor coming to the fore at the end of the episode. There is post regenerative trauma as per usual"

"Having nearly been destroyed at the end of Tennant's last episode, the TARDIS and the newly regenerated Doctor crashland in a small Scottish village where they both start to recuperate. Unfortunately their arrival also causes a handful of Sea Devils to be woken from a hibernating colony hidden offshore.")

The episode starts with the TARDIS crashlanding in a young Amy's garden, with a soaking wet Doctor climbing from the wreckage. An engine problem threatesn to make the Tardis explode, so the Doctor says he'll be back in a moment, dematerialises, and doesn't come back for another fifteen years.

Aclassic monster unseen so far in the New Series will be appearing in Episode 1.

The CGI Myrka rumours may not be too far from the mark...

1.2 TBA

Rumours
"The Doctor and Amy set off in the newly "regenerated" TARDIS unaware that the Ship's rejuvination has set free a vicious race of creatures that the Doctor had trapped in there centuries before. (The creatures look like a weird tiger/monkey combination with TARDIS roundels imprinted on their skin.) What follows is basically "Aliens" in a TARDIS, with no guest cast appearing.

1.? TBA (The Crash of the Byzantium?) Block 1
Director Adam Smith.
Cast: Alex Kingston
Episodes unconfirmed but said to be 4/5

PLOT
Some of the wreckage mentioned in the set reports bears the name "Byzantium". Add the presence of Alex Kingston, and it seems extremely likely that this episode deals with "the Crash of the Byzantium", one of the events listed in River Songs diary in "Silence in the Library".

The soldiers are "from the future”; there is a logo resembling the Greek letter omega on the soldiers' uniforms.

CASTING
“Viewers will have to wait and see who [Alex Kingston] plays and how her character fits into the series." A two episode stint is suggested.

Another character appears to be called "Cleric Marco"

Yeah, I don't (want to) believe the Harriet Jones stuff. In league with the Master at the end of Series 4? Possibly not really dead?? No way, can't happen. That would be crap.

And :::sigh::: Rose and Jackie AGAIN? Even if they are in a time period before they met the Doctor, as had also been rumored, that ship has sailed already. Twice.

Some of it does sound intriguing though, if true. Can't wait till we see the actual episodes!

I like how Canterbury always says "strongly suggests" as if Elisabeth Sladen would be brought onto Doctor Who to play someone other than Sarah Jane.

I really hope some of that stuff isn't dead like the Harriet Jones garbage (which would really take away from her sacrifice in "The Stolen Earth") and "the companion of the last two specials will die" (Wilf?). I'm also not keen on the TARDIS being completely destroyed and The Doctor has to regrow a new.

The TARDIS destroyed thing has been floating around a while now, I think it's probably gonna happen.

Mind you, you'd think if he was going to grow a new TARDIS then the chameleon circuit would at least work.

I don't want the Harriet Jones stuff to happen...some of what was posted seemed interesting and plausible but I guess we'll have to wait and see at Christmas time what actually happens. Either way I'm really excited about all the remaining Tennant Specials and series five and the Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond.

What if some of these guest stars were only invited on set to be "seen" on set and throw off the internet spoiler crowd?

Weirder things have happened.

The Doctor is more than likely using a piece of the old TARDIS to grow the new one so maybe the chameleon circuit problem is still there is the "pieces" of the TARDIS.

If that were the case, I might like it.

Of course, I hate to judge before we actually see the episodes.

From what I heard they had to redo the interior of the TARDIS due to the switch over to HD. If anything he'll change the desktop theme.

judging by what little we have seen in the way of set photos, there is very little we could say he know for sure at this stage.
