Just discovered "Weeds"

After being bored one night I decided to check out what other TV shows NetFlix had on Instant Watching and found that they had the first 2 seasons of Weeds. Being only somewhat familiar about the show and seeing it on sale cheap in stores here and there, I figured I'd check it out before blind buying a season or two here and there.

Now I am frakking hooked! Show is addicting... like the name! Mary Louise Parker is one hot mama... amazing to think that she's in her 40s. I love the writing, a bit profanity laced for no reason, I mean I know people say fuck alot but there was one tirade where Dean just said it like six or seven times in various forms. Which was funny as hell, but a bit excessive. But the sex, moderate violence and badassery... damn I love this show!

And I dunno if I'm the only one, but I'm oddly turned on by MLP's little bite/suck on the coffee cup straw thing. (by the way, anyone got a good screen cap of her with the straw in her mouth?) its so innocent and yet so sexy.

I know I've heard the next couple of seasons are kinda hit and miss, they tried to get a little too much like the Sopranos or something and now she's dealing heroin? That doesn't sound like the Nancy that we got in S1 and S2 where she even explained to Silas that she only dealt weed because its "medicinal and makes people mellow" or something to that effect and that's why she wouldn't deal in coke or meth or others.

Andy is weird yet he's oddly entertaining and Kevin Nealon is a fragging hoot.

Anyone else addicted to "Weeds" and not uhm weed.

I consider season 1-3 Weeds and season 4-6 a spinoff of Weeds that just has the same name. :)

I bought season 1and 2 last year from Amazon for $9, forgetting that I needed season 3 to finish the story out.

She never deals heroin because she has her limits.

But yeah season 5 is very very VERY dark and nothing like seasons 1-3. Hell i don't think she has even seen pot at all this season. Season 3 is really great after the U-Turn mess, and has a perfect ending for the season and the show.

i'm only through season 4, and while a clear departure from season 1–3, it's still a great show.

and i think just about anything MLP does is sexy. MLP=yummy.

Yeah, she's really just got that sexy kind of "I can balance my checkbook and you'll get a boner" appeal. I'm sorry to hear that 4 and 5 are so different. So what has she been doing during season 5? I mean that was the premise of the show, that she's a pot dealing mom.

You don't really want to have season 5 spoiled for you before you get there, do you? To answer your question in an as spoiler-less manner as possible, season 5 is such a radical departure because it's in a totally different location than the first few seasons, there's a different cast of supporting characters, and Nancy has so many other personal problems with her family that she can no longer find time to be in the weed business! Some of the other characters are still dealing with weed, but it's becoming more and more marginalized because of other issues.

I've been really addicted to this show for about two months. I got through the first four seasons in about a week! The cliffhangers are just so well done, especially in the early seasons, and I'm so glad I didn't have to wait a week for their resolutions like the people who watched the seasons when they were originally broadcast.

And I agree about Mary Louise Parker - I can't get enough of her! I think she looks better now than she did when I saw her in '90s movies, and I also love how she's always sucking on that coffee straw (trivia note: apparently the sound effects people always add the slurping noise that you hear when a drink is empty, even when her drink is still almost full). I wish they'd make an action figure of her that comes with the ever-present cup and straw :)

So when they move... does she still suck her coffee? Heheh

I think there was a scene in season 1 where she and I think it was either Peter or someone else and they're sort of doing a suck duel with their coffee cups

OK, I just watched the first episode. That's fucking hilarious. I guess I won't watch past the first three seasons (if you promise it has a fitting ending). But that episode was perfect.

I tried watching but it just didn't grab me. Breaking Bad is a more gripping and insane depiction of a solid middle-class citizen becoming a drug lord - ironically it's on "mere" basic cable.

Trying to stay alive.

I won't say more because there are so many episodes and downs, it's a very uneven season. However other characters on the show have still been dealing pot.

There are several moments when you go "Even Nancy isn't that god damn dumb!"", but they make her that dumb.

Season 4 and 5 have the same basic cast, with some characters becoming more full time.

Also someone said that the pilot was so great, sadly it's one of the best episodes. Also they need to bring back Doug's gay son!

Season 5 has been crazy. I think I'm going to wait until it's over and watch all the episodes back to back, because the story line is frustrating.

Kevin Nealon is a fragging hoot.

I missed this in the original post and just want to second it. This is the one thing I think has remained totally consistent all the way up to the present. No matter how good or not-so-good an episode is (and personally I enjoy all the seasons, even though I agree that the first three are better than four and five), you can always rely on Doug and Andy to have some great lines/hilarious actions. If I find what's going on with Nancy rather underwhelming, I can at least rely on Doug or Andy to bring the funny big-time. And one of Nick's questions reminded me that Nancy doesn't have her trademark drink with her as much these days. :( They should bring that back!

You swallowed?!?!
I didn't want to be a hypocrite.

I won't say who says that and why, but it was the best grossest funny line I remember on TV.

My fave Doug and Andy scene was from season one. The two of them are getting baked on the couch having a conversation about their private areas.
Lupita walks in and one of them asks her "Lupita, what the thing between the dick and the asshole called?"
She say, "the coffee table."

Love this show. I've managed to get my friend hooked. She is almost done season two and it's pretty much all she can talk about. Which is great because i'm always willing to talk about Weeds.

^^^that's a great scene, I also love the one where Andy talks to Shane about masturbation, in an effort to get Shane to stop flushing his jerkoff socks down the toilet.

Well its just that he's so off the wall, I was watching that one clip on YouTube where one of the sewage pipes burst during this big unveiling and there's Doug in the golf course dancing around like a loon.

What could be interesting is at the end of Season 5 (or 6 depending on how much they leave unresolved) they have the family move to some new suburb, and Nancy basically becomes the Heylia to a new 'mommy dealer' and then end the series. Would be a cool sort of "full circle" thing.

Although part of me thinks they are going to do a Quentin Tarantino ending and like no one but Doug and Celia are left alive.

"So you wanna get baked and do it?"

"Oh what the hell... got nothing else better to do."

Fade to black

Or... lol... Nancy works at a new Coffee Shop.

That sells Weed. Legally. In Amsterdam.

I gave up toward the end of season 3 when Nancy's unique mix of complete ineptitude and amorality became too much. It got to the point where I freakin' loathed her (with Silas in a close second). Not even the awesomeness of Doug and Andy was enough to counterbalance it.

I loved seasons 1-3 and to an extent season 4, but i actually gave up around episode 3 of this season. I just didnt think it was funny anymore and Nancy just got irritating. So has season 5 gotten better?

No, not really. There have been maybe 2-3 good episodes this season out of the 11 shown so far. That's my complaint too, they have forgotten the funny.

Oddly Silas gets a lot better... Nancy gets a lot worse.
