Random things you think are weird

I always think of stuff like this. Who decided what words sounded like? If a god actually exists, Why do people die? If humans and apes are 99.9% similar, Why can't they comprehend language?

Why do people get into cults? If seems weird to me. These so called "Christian" cults that the members end up dying in dont look very "Christian" to me. Take Koresh for instance. His followers believed he was Jesus. Well if they had read their Bibles they would have understood nowhere does it say Jesus will come back, buy a bunch of guns and barricade Himself in Waco, TX.

Silent letters. If we wont be saying/hearing them anyways, why the hell are they there?

Why are words like read and read spelled the same but sound different?

And speaking of Banana Shakes, why can't you buy them in the Supermarket? They have Chocolate Shakes and some other kind-- Raspberry, I think-- but no Banana Shakes.

What kind of a world is this? No Hot Dogs at BK and no Banana Shakes at the Supermarket. I'm losing my idealism here. :(

So the Earth wouldn't get too crowded? ;)

Hmm.. Fair point. We could move to Mars though

I think in the end, most people don't want to live forever. I know I wouldn't (not on Earth anyway ;) ). Immortality brings boredom and listlessness. If you can't die, there's no risk in anything, and therefore no excitement, no enjoyment.

Indeed, as anyone who's read Asimov's "The Last Trump" might agree, immortality might actually be hell...Think about it. :vulcan:

When I lived in the south, there were no seasonal DQ's. They were all regular ones where you could get burgers, etc, too.

There are more Dairy Queens per capita in Texas than anywhere else in the world.

Vegetable oil comes from mashed up vegetables. Olive oil comes from mashed up olives. Where does baby oil come from?

Trains stop at train stations. Buses stop at a bus station. This post was made from my work station.

Talk about weird...Cookie cutter stadiums. What the hell were the designers thinking? They all sucked, they were ugly and had all the charm of a parking garage. Even the players didn't like them...Thank God they're all gone (except for Oakland Coliseum and RFK).

Spoilers on cars.
Seriously. :wtf:

downforce for stability at higher speeds . . . but most of the time they just look ridiculous, and they don't do anything
very few cars that have spoilers A)need them and B)have a functioning spoiler

if you see a Honda Civic with a huge wing on the back . . . the owner probably thinks it makes their car go faster and look cooler
the function of a spoiler is to push the car down at higher speeds so the wheels have better traction
well . . . last time I checked Honda Civics are front wheel drive, so a spoiler on the back won't help at all with giving the drive wheels better traction
it'll just be a huge airbrake

Why in the hell do we call the illness "shingles?" It doesn't look anything remotely like shingles to me.

You obviously live in the wrong country. Excuse me now while I go to my very close supermarket and buy myself a cool banana shake. Mmmmmmmmmmh.

On topic, I think fingers are weird. These five digits sticking out, looking like a fan if you spread them. Or what about your face. There are these openings ... in your face. It's like someone took a knife and sliced open a little part where now your mouth is.

Did you know that 'weird' used to mean 'fate'? In Scots 'they maun dree their ain wyrd' still means they must suffer their own fate.

Blame Shakespeare and the play which must never be named. ;)

It's almost solely down to his calling the witches "The Weird Sisters" that weird became a word for strange rather than fate. I suspect he used Weird to mean Fate, to create a link with the Three Fates from Greek myth.

That's not weird, that's highly interesting.
