aside from BUMPYs

Star trek seems to be most known for its bumpy-headed alien of the week creations. But what alien, not humanoid, was the best in your opinion. Best meaning what? You tell me...but it cant be a GORN or a JEM'Hedar. Non-humanoid variety...

The parasitic head exploding aliens were better even than the ceti eels. It was a shame they didn't string that plot out over more than two episodes - the idea was nixed I think because it was too scary for the young uns and portrayed the Federation in a less than perfect light. Having that as the culmination of the seven years of TNG would have made for an arc that rivalled Babylon 5.

IMO the Gorn is not humanoid since it appears to be reptile-descended, rather than mammalian. It is bipedal for sure.

Hopefully that disqualifies the Mugato, too; I just watched "Private Little War" and that thing is THE WORST. Its spikes are clearly foam rubber.

I'd have to go with the Horta. Great episode on things not being as they seem, and she really comes across as a real "person" thanks to Mr. Nimoy. Yup - Horta.

The Q were interesting. Kind of a cheat, I guess, since we always saw them as humanoids, but they definitely weren't.

Also, whatever took over Voyager in "The Haunting of Deck Twelve" was fun to watch. It was great when it figured out how to use the stock computer response phrases to communicate with Janeway. "I won't be your prisoner, you're going to have to kill me!" "Acknowledged."

I showed my son CONSPIRACY a few weeks back. I didn't tell him what was coming when they blew its head off and that thing came of the exposed guts..what a great scene. A very un-Roddenberryish thing, and yet he let it go through!!! One of his best decisions, IMO.

I'm writing this as I'm eating Lasagna...yuk!!!

I liked the Tholians, especially when they appeared in the last season of Enterprise.

I'd have to go with the Horta.
Hoorable mention for the nueral parasites, and the crystaline entity.
I also liked the rock guy from The Savage Curtain. I little hokey, but I liked it.
Also, those flying things that Janeway went all "Ripley" on in that episode of Voyager.

OMG! How did your little guy react??? He wasnt freaked by it?

Yes, he was. But he reacted like most of us did when it first aired..."This is Star Trek?"

Rob
