What happened to Chevy Chase?

I'm watching part of Fletch Lives and while the movie isn't awesome, he seems generally funny. He seems like he is a grumpy old man sort now. He wasn't funny on that late show he had and not very funny on Chuck. Did something happen to him to make him all grumpy and unfunny?

He is going to be in a new sitcom with Joel McHale from 'The Soup' soon I think.

No idea what changed him, or if he even did change. Maybe just getting older did it. Or maybe he was bummed when his late night talk show tanked.

I thought he was great in Fletch and the Vacation movies. I never cared for Saturday Night Live in any form, so those kind of left me cold.

Actually, he was on THREE episodes of Chuck. And maybe his lack of humor was due to the fact that his role was a high-ranking FULCRUM operative? Being funny kind of undermines being a villain. Hard to hate someone you laugh at... unless you're in TNZ.

Chevy's okay. He does better as the laconic partner, ala "Spies Like Us". He doesn't work very well alone, and requires someone else who is funny to work well at all.
