PS3 slim offical, price drop acorss the board to $299/Euro299/£250

Not really, babies are cheap, especially when they have a fuckload of hand-me-downs from their slightly older sister!
worrif it's a buoy?

The price is a still a little high for me, I'm still thinking £200 is the point at which I start considering it.

I didn't mean clothes (most of Mia's are deliberately unisex for this very reason anyway) but stuff like cots, prams, slings, bottles, etc.

Anyway... aye. The fat ones are popping up on ebay for about £150 now!

Ah, yes, don't things don't just disappear when no long in use...

Not a bad price, still think I'd rather buy new than off eBay or from anywhere that doesn't offer a minimum of 6 months warranty...

They still don't include an HDMI, or even component cables with the PS3? Thats kind of lame...
It was absurd especially at launch prices. Apparently Microsoft after many years of doing the right thing and including a plethora of HD cables, is now shipping systems with nothing more than composite video as well. Ugh!

It's been reported that they pulled linux support from the PS3 slim. If I were to guess I would say BC is still toast on it.

Well the standard definition TV is still king across the world so i can understand it, a HDMI cable would have been nice though, but good quality HDMI cables can be had now quite cheap so its not really a deal breaker i suppose.

Yeah that feature is gone from the slim, but it will still be on all previous PS3 models, you can have mine if you want, never used it.;)

X360 and PS3 are not at all the same thing in this respect, X360 isn't pushing Blu-Ray.

Well, composite isn't even good enough to bring out the full potential of DVD, let alone blu-ray... more importantly the games are mostly in the 720p range, so in that respect Xbox 360 and PS3 are the same thing and should both include the required cables.

Well, I am now the owner of a PS3. I didn't really care about getting the Slim, and price-dropped 80gb is fine with me...I feel like the "regular' PS3s are built better, they probably need a year to work out the kinks with the Slim. Either way, I know own a PS3 and Xbox 360! It's interesting to compare the two, definite pros and cons to each. I expect PS3 will be for BluRays and Sony exclusive titles (inFamous, Uncharted, Heavy Rain) and Xbox 360 will remain my primary gaming platform since I have more friends on there.

Anyway, got a copy of inFamous, it's a blast so far, they gave it to me for a free so long as I got the 3-year warrenty, seemed like a good deal to me.

Both platforms are pushing a form of 1080p video, both platforms are pushing High Definition gaming. Bluray by far is not the *only* thing that requires an HDMI connection to get the best out of.

And like Yoda said, composite isn't even good enough reproduce the picture from a DVD player particularly well, let alone a console that has been designed at every stage to output 720p minimum.

Why would they get rid of the component cable after all this time? Or even the HDMI, penny pinching I assume, but you just know plently of idiots will think their xbox/ps3 connected to the tv with the scart adapter is HD.

If they're too stupid, blind or braindead to know the difference, what's the damage? Fuck 'em.

Actually, that might account for that minority on many gaming message boards that insists there's "no difference" or "very little difference" between the visuals of this console gen and the last. Or those people that think a shitty 28 inch CRT they bought in 1997 is still a decent screen for gaming on.

You don't need component/HDMI to appreciate X360's graphics or the convenience of a VOD service, you do need component/HDMI to appreciate the advantages Blu-Ray offers over DVD, a feature which accounts for a significant fraction of the console's price tag.

Both consoles should ship with component cables, but PS3's is certainly the more egregious omission.

The XBL VOD service has always marketed as a delivery platform for high def content. Soon they'll be pushing their (dubiously named) "instant on" 1080p streaming - no point without a decent connector. It's not just being marketed for its convenience, but I do take your point.

I completely disagree about the graphics though. You do need a decent set up to appreciate just how superior it is to the previous console gen's offerings, just like how a bluray movie and a DVD connected via composite or even RGB SCART will pretty much look the same.

Both consoles should ship with component cables, but PS3's is certainly the more egregious omission.

Yeah I'd agree with that, but the 360 is being touted as a HD console just as much as the PS3 is, bluray or not.

If I already have a 360 and a blu-ray player is there any reason to get a PS3?

There doesn't seem to be any must have games I can't get for the 360.

What games are there that are worth shelling out on the console for?

Valkyria Chronicles, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction, LittleBigPlanet, Wipeout HD (and the Fury DLC), Metal Gear Solid 4, Infamous, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift

A ton of other awesome games are being released in the near future: Uncharted 2, Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time, Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo 5, MAG, God of War 3
