PS3 slim offical, price drop acorss the board to $299/Euro299/£250

Well, frak. Why couldn't there have been rumors about this back before I bought my PS3? :scream:
You must have bought it a while ago since there's been rumours of this for something like a year now. :p

Or it feels like it, anyway.

Just to confirm the new slim PS3 still allows the internal HDD to be upgraded, there was speculation that the system would not allow you to upgrade the HDD like the older models do, the HDD is now accessible at the front of the system under the BR drive.

I don't understand why Sony has the old ones for $300 when the new one is better and will be the same price. The old ones should be $250.

Hrm, any chance my 20GB launch PS3 is appreciating in value? Ya know... collector's item and all that? Oooh, full PS2 support! Anyone want to offer $500 for it?

Really? I didn't hear any rumors until about a couple months ago, several months after I'd bought my PS3. I'm really not that annoyed by it, but if I'd known then that I could have waited a few months... ::shrug:: Eh, not really a big deal.

That's was my first PS3, 20gig Asia model...great having full PS2 compatibility, but could not use it due to region coding on games....I did get about £320 on ebay for it if i remember correctly.:)

speaking of which, does the slim come with ps2 support?

No, only the launch 20gig/60gig/80gig PS3s had BC for PS2 games...but you never know what Sony might have up their sleeve concerning BC done in full software.

I personally definitely prefer the looks of the original PS3. I've had mine for almost two years now and I still think it looks awesome.

The new one isn't really better, it's just smaller. You also have no idea how reliable the new one will be.

I personally think neither of them stands out as a great design (with the Slim getting a slight edge due to size) but the thing that elevates the slim in my eyes is it doesn't have a glossy finish on the top. Fingerprints on my black DS Lite drive me crazy and the PS3 Phat seemed to be even worse with dust and fingerprints.

Sony expects the 80 GB Phat to be out of the sales channel by September though the 160 GB supply may last a little longer.
I'm sure Sony planned out when they would end Phat manufacturing very carefully so that they would be nearly out of them by the time they had enough Slims to launch worldwide.

I know over the last few days I saw numerous reports of the Phat PS3 being sold out in different countries, though there seems to be a bit more stock in the US then other places.

The 3.0 software update is interesting to us Brits. As well as adding the European video store, there's also something they kept fairly quiet - BBC iPlayer support.

The web-based iPlayer works right now via the browser with various workarounds, but I've found it doesn't work very well with the Blu-Ray remote, you really have to use a controller to make it work properly and fast forwarding and rewinding is tricky.

Similar services from Spanish broadcasters RTVE, ANTENA 3 and La Sexta, ZDFmediathek in Germany, NOS in the Netherlands and ABC in Australia are also coming.

From the footage they showed yesterday, it looks like Sony (obviously), Warner Brothers and Paramount at least are on board for the new movie store to provide movies in SD and HD for purchase or rental. They say they will be adding television shows in the future as well.

^ From what I've read online, the iPlayer thingy is just gonna be a direct link. So if you'll select it in XMB, it'll start the web browser and go to the iPlayer page.

Well, I hope it's a lot better than that as the controller is annoying to use.

Will definitely be picking up a PS3 next year.

Although I'm not bothered about how bulky/thin the system is, so I'm hoping this will signal the plumetting of the PS3-fat model second hand. Ideally, if I could pick one up for £150 by my next birthday (July), the elation I give off would be enough to power Belgium for a year.

Not worried about paying for a baby as well?

Not really, babies are cheap, especially when they have a fuckload of hand-me-downs from their slightly older sister!
