TOS-R marathon on Space...

In Canada Space is promoting a TOS-R marathon to be aired on Labour Day. It'll b a chance for many to see some of these episodes if you haven't already (and even if you have). And Space usually has a decent record of not editing some things in their first runs. Back several years ago when TOS was digitally remastered Space ran the episodes in their entirety uncut and with commercial breaks only where they were originally intended and no longer than one or two minutes long.

So I'll check out some of these since I know I'll never be buying the TOS-R DVD sets unless someday I find them dirt cheap in a remainder bin somewhere.

Anyone else?

Yeah, I just saw a commercial for this today. Apparently, you can go to Space's website to vote for your favourite episodes, and they'll air the ones with the most votes.

It sounds neat, I'll definitely try to check out a few of the episodes.

Anyone know when they're actually scheduled to start? I could program by DVD recorder for eight hours while I'm at work and see the rest when I get home around 3-4pm.

It's mostly curiosity for me. I've seen many excerpts online and perhaps three or four whole episodes. Most of the new f/x I didn't care for since they're so obviously of a different aesthetic that they jar me right out of what's going on storywise even though I've seen the episodes numerous times each.

^^ Sweet. Then no problem. I'll still set the recorder for eight hours and switch discs in the evening.

What is interesting to note though, is that they've got 2 hours set aside for The Cage at 10pm- I can't remember whether it was edited or not when it was shown in syndication.

Also, if it's easier to record it, they're repeating the top 10 episodes straight after it from 12midnight through to 10am on Tuesday :)

We don't get Space here, but I got the 1st season on Blu-Ray and they are wonderful. Plus, I'm beginning to find I'm enjoying the new effects more than the originals. They don't throw me out of the story at all!

The website, spacecast.com, says the marathon starts at 12 noon.

That's 12 noon EDT. I'm in Winnipeg which is CDT so that would mean an 11am start time! ;)

And yes, you vote on the website and they'll air the top 10 remastered episodes. This is on Labour Day of course!

I'm surprised Canada has "Labour Day". Same date as in the States?

You're surprised we have Labour Day? You really didn't know that when you live right below us? LOL! I guess Americans only know what's within their borders. I know you have Memorial Day a week after our Victoria Day. I know your Thanksgiving is at the end of November while ours is in October. I know you have Independence Day on the 4th while we have Canada Day on the 1st.

Actually most of the world has a Labour Day. You call it Labor Day because Americans don't like the letter 'u' whereas we do - colour, labour, honour, etc. We celebrate it on the first Monday of September just like you. Some countries celebrate it on May 1 where it's called May Day. But on September 7th this year, your country and ours will have a holiday. That only happens on two other days of the year - Christmas Day and New Years Day! ;)

Tuning in to some of the Health Care debates from down south I find it alternatingly hilarious and shocking how uninformed many Americans are and how many outright lies people are accepting as fact. In fairness the media are not showing the quiet majority of sober reflection (not sensational enough), but I find the total fabrications and distortions outrageous.

So seeing that some don't realize we Canadians also have a Labour Day is no real surprise.

OK - I just voted and will try to vote everyday! I'm excited about this, since I have not had a chance to see any episodes in their entirety! Should we discuss which ones we've voted for. I tried to think of ones like "Doomsday Machine" where the effects would be most noticeable.

Does this mean that Space will now be using the TOS-R versions of the episodes for the daily (Mon.-Fri.) airings of TOS? I hope so!

Hey, Canada has a July 4th every year, too!!:p

Ive been watching the remastereds here on a local station at 10 at night. I have the original sets on dvd and will play them at the same time as the remastereds to compare the effects and see what they cut out. I have to say I still enjoy the original effects. Yeah the new ones are interesting to look at but Im not going to rush out and buy the.

The station that plays them has a poor signal and the episodes arent perfectly clear. The new effects actually seem to blend in better with lower resolution.

I own all three seasons of TOS-R ---- the new effects really enhance the episodes. A much needed facelift for TOS!

LOL. That's true!

I've never seen any of the remastered episodes so I'm looking forward to catching the top 10 on Labour Day. I actually wish they would have given the remastered episodes the effects from say, Enterprise. I know they didn't want to make it too jarring with the old 60's acting but I find the effects they re-did still look 'old'. I wanted the planets to look like real planets (like on Voyager, DS9, Enterprise, etc.) instead of just better versions of the fake-looking planets. I wanted the ship to look more like what they did with Defiant on In a Mirror, Darkly on Enterprise.

Space is now promoting the airing of "The Cage" remastered for Sept. 7th at 10pm.

There's one flyby of the ship I'd like to see, but the shot of the familiar first approach of the E leaves me cold as it looks just totally flat and cartoony. As creaky as the original shot looks I still prefer it in overall feel.

That's why blu-ray is the only choice for remastered Trek. High-definition video with the original special FX.
