You may disagree, but Biggs & Combs turned in S7's best performances!

Biggs especially was awesome and the give and take between the two during the Dominion occupation of Cardassia was gold, absolute gold.

I might not disagree, and even if I do, it would be by the smallest margins. Man, Biggs was GOOD! And Combs, as always, was an acting coup for the show.

I agree. The two actors really made the relationship work. The two were always a pleasure to watch.

If disagreement is what you're looking for, you're not likely to find it here. :)

I have my share of problems with S7, but the Cardassian arc was absolutely brilliant. Those two were really enjoyable to watch. You could just feel Damar's growing annoyance and anger, and wait for him to snap.

But my favorite exchange between those two was their dialogue about religion in season 6 finale ("All this talk of Prophets and Pah-wraiths strikes me as superstitious nonsense" " But you believe that the Founders are gods!" "That is different" "How?" "The Founders are gods!" :cardie: )

Combs is pure gold in every single scene he is in in DS9, or anything else for that matter.

I'd never have any problem agreeing that Combs gave the best performance on DS9 (S7 or otherwise), as it is always better-than-perfect. On the other hand, I also believe there are likewise many other better-than-perfect performances on DS9 including Winn, Dukat (yes the writers fubared them in S7, but that's not their fault), Garak, Quark, and Odo.

Well, I'm hardly going to disagree with this assertion now am I;)

It really made season 7 and in the end in turned the final chapter into the story of Damar's redemption. Plus Biggs did a fine turn at playing a passive aggressive Cardassian.

"No, of course it doesn't"

I'm not sure I'd say they gave the absolute 'best' performances...but they were pretty high on the list, for sure. And certainly the two of them plus Andrew Robinson gave the best performances from among the recurring actors, anyway. :)

Re: You may disagree, but Biggs & Combs turned in S7's best performanc

I wouldn't say they had the best of the cast, but they were fantastic, and watching Damar and Weyoun is undoubtedly one of S7's highlights.

Damar/Weyoun's best exchange:
(Damar knocks back a large glass of kanar.)
WEYOUN: A bit early, isn't it? Even for you.
DAMAR: Just something to warm the bones. It's freezing in here.
WEYOUN: The Founder prefers it that way.
DAMAR: I don't see why we should suffer. She hasn't been in here for days.
WEYOUN: Feel free to dress warmly.
DAMAR: I wonder what she does in her quarters all day? She didn't look well the last time I saw her. I hope she's not ill.:lol::lol::lol::lol:
WEYOUN: How can a god be ill?
DAMAR: Maybe she's not a god.
WEYOUN: Whether you believe the Founders are gods or not is irrelevant. All they require from you is obedience. Now. The Founder wants a subspace comm. link installed in her quarters.
DAMAR: I'll see to it.

Ooooh, I LOVED that "No, of COURSE it doesn't!" line...the whole sarcastic look and tone--SO perfect! :D

Re: You may disagree, but Biggs & Combs turned in S7's best performanc

I just rewatched the beginning arc of season 6 and was shocked at how thuggish Damar was—I always remember the WYLB Damar. He was still really well-acted, of course.

Re: You may disagree, but Biggs & Combs turned in S7's best performanc

I'm so glad the two of them were around to relieve me from the awfulness of the Dukat/Winn scenes. They were always a breath of fresh air among some of the crap going on in that final arc. Damar's character development towards the end of the series really took me by surprise, and I enjoyed his interactions with Weyoun even more than those of Dukat in season 5 (which were also good).

Re: You may disagree, but Biggs & Combs turned in S7's best performanc

I am amazed at how the character grew from his first appearance to the Damar we saw in WYLB.

How often in fiction does a nameless, drab, background character become a heroic head of state? Not often, I imagine.

To paraphrase the Monarch, "I know it sounds crazy, but Damar has that rare blend of expendable and invulnerable that makes him the perfect henchman."

Re: You may disagree, but Biggs & Combs turned in S7's best performanc

I agree fully. Damar is one of my favorite characters in all of trek, if not my number one fav. Biggs did a wonderful job of portraying him. He had some of the most powerful lines in the whole show and did it very well.

Combs just always does great with his parts, Weyoun being one of his best in my opinion.

Re: You may disagree, but Biggs & Combs turned in S7's best performanc

I think it really helped that Biggs and Combs were friends IRL.

I saw them together once at the Vegas Trek Con. They shared the stage for their bit, and they were great together. Tons of laughs!

Re: You may disagree, but Biggs & Combs turned in S7's best performanc

The only extent to which I can disagree with you is to say DS9 and TNG had a really marvelous reoccurring cast of actors in addition to Biggs and Combs, who weren't household names, but probably should be. Marc Alaimo, JG Hertzler, Tony Todd, James Sloyan, Andrew Robinson, Vaughn Armstrong. They all did superb work on the show often playing entirely different characters. If awards shows focused on actual performances instead of what type of show an actor is in I think Trek whould have dominated.
