Battlestar to get a more colorful upbeat reboot?

Will check it out, it can't be worse than the emo laden syfy show.. thats just my opinion,
no offense to the folks who liked it...

I was never really much of a fan of the original, so correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't that series also start with the human race suffering a massive holocaust? In which case... how upbeat can you possibly get? :wtf:

Episode 1: The Apocalypse

Episode 2: Peanut Butter Jelly Time!

Like I said in the BSG forum, I think this has promise, and I will watch it, just as I have TOS and nuBSG. I've enjoyed both, and will probably enjoy this.

I don't care about the timing, I'm just really interested to see how Singer handles this. I hope he gets McQuarrie to work with him but I doubt it.

Frankly I think we're lucky to see two intelligent creators work on and reinterpret the subject material within such a close time frame.

Robot dog. Space-basketball in colorful spandex uniforms. Going AWOL while on a recon mission to manage a touring group of freaky alien singers who really weren't that good. Enough surrogate children to fill a schoolbus. Relaxed attitudes towards technical issues, to the point where it was obvious that they couldn't remember if a "centon" was a second, a minute, or a century, and, in context, none of those possibilities made sense when parsing the dialogue. A really slutty voice-activated Viper auto-pilot.

Oh, and I think Starbuck knocked up an angel at one point. Guess ol' Gaius was shooting blanks in the remake.

They played Triad on the new series and there was plenty of rule breaking on the new show. And no Starbuck didn't knockup an angel.

Rule-breaking that wasn't trivialized or without consequences (most of the time). Triad (Called Pyramid in the original series) that wasn't neutered with silly costumes and lacking emotional subtext.

You're right about the angel thing, though. I think I would have remembered that. As for the Centon thing, at least the writers knew they weren't keeping it straight. The best line of the series, which practically breaks the fourth wall, is found in Greetings from Earth, "Apollo, what's a Centon?"

Meh, this is stupid. I love the show (although I've some issues with the ending, etc.) and I love Singer, but this seems really pointless and unnecessary. YES, I know why they're making it, but I still think it's stupid.

I think you must be thinking of Heroes which is certainly emo-laden and which nuBSG is the furthest thing from. I'm not trying to say your wrong not to like the show and I'm not saying nuBSG was good or bad or somewhere in the middle, just that it was far from what is traditionally understood as "emo".

As for the new movie, because it's Singer I have a mild interest, but it's doesn't make any sense to me at all why they try and reboot a third time rather then just take a very well received, critically lauded show and it's built in audience and run with them.

Course, I'm beyond baffled that they're developing a new Buffy the Vampire slayer movie without any involvement from Whedon or any of the cast members who made the show a cult favorite for 7 years.

This is the movie studio equivalent of re-releasing the Original Casino Royale when the New one hit theaters, or the 60's Batman movie with all new gritty cover art when Batman Begins came out.

There's no story to be told here that hasn't already been told (I mean, we've had crazy happy campy light BSG and Medium toned BSG which quickly turned into dark BSG, what else is there?) meaning that their just here to make a quick buck, and that defining fact is what set NuBSG apart from almost everything else.

Im against this, I wont poo poo it entirely until production starts, and I will give it a chance in theaters, but I don't expect to enjoy it much at all...

Adama gets a little emo when he paints... :)

I am a fan of both shows, they both had their flaws and they both had their memorable moments for me. I think the perfect remake would be a combination of sorts of BOTH shows....

...in like 15 or 20 years from now.

We have the DVD's of the old show and we have just had NuBSG on and now we have the prequel and Caprica coming. We really aren't done with NuBSGverse...not yet anyway.

We need space between the 'reimagings' ....or this will fail on an epic scale.

Vons

No, there's no new story to tell, but they CAN take the original show and make it into the thrilling, action-packed space opera it clearly wanted to be.

The original LOOKS like it should be tons of fun, but you actually watch it and it's dull and generic as hell. I'd love to see Singer try to correct that.

You mean I will have a reason to like Singer. If he can make the world forget about that "show" then he will get points for SR. Not many but some.

About the only thing I want to see is a cool Male Starbuck smoking cigars and hear “By your command” from a clyon.
