If Riker didn't disobey orders and come to the rescue do you think Q would have allowed Picard to be beheaded?

And one thing that's amusing about that is Q shows up to repay a debt which is imposed upon Picard and then it would have turned out that the favour would have ended up being a beheading!

That is a very interesting question.

Sir Guy may have gone ahead and executed both Picard and Vash. Afterall, Q tells Picard that he (Q) had given the scenario a life of its own and had no control over what happened. This might be the reason why Q looks so damn shell-shocked half way through the episode when he realized that Vash had talked her way out of the execution. Vash had beaten Q at his own game. If Picard had only listened to Vash and left when she told him to, at noon the next day, if she hadn't managed to escape, Vash would have gone through with the little mock wedding; then poof, they would have all been back on the Enterprise. No blood, no foul!

Of course, then we would never have been treated to that classic swashbuckling scene where Robin Hood rescues Maid Marion from the tower. You hear the guards outside the door being dispatched just before Picard flings the heavy door aside. “Jean-Luc,” Vash sighs as they make their way across the room to each other. In one hand Picard holds his bloodied broadsword while with his free hand he sweeps Vash up into his arms for a passionate kiss. :luvlove:

I love that episode!:luvlove:

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie

I doubt it. At the end of the episode Q states to Picard that the debt has been paid. He may have infact let Picard get his head cut off and then brought him back to life.....

No I think Q had a soft spot for Picard, even if it was just that he liked to wind him up.

Yes kind of like a master and his beloved pet. That was just an analogy of course

I think Q knew that there was no way the crew was going to stay back at let Picard face it alone. Q said he wanted to show Picard that he was as sentimental and fallible as anyone else, anyone else presumably being people like his crew.

Another thing in this episode was Picard was particularly angry at Q throughout the entire episode, despite being almost civil during Q's previous appearance when he was made mortal.

I assumed that it was the Borg invasion since then that precipitated that.

Given that Picard was supposed to be giving a major lecture, I can see how he would have been more stressed out than usual. I doubt the Borg had much to do with it.

Actually his outright hostility in this episode from the first moment Q showed up is indicative of going far beyond not being in the mood for it.

And I would assume it was that Borg incident which is obviously tied back to Q as being the reason.

Hmm good question, but i don't think Q would have let picard die, he's far too fond of him, and it was only a test all along. When it came down to it, Q would have prevented his death in my opinion.

Since Q is all knowing, I bet he knew how it was going to turn out all along. Then again, killing off Picard at the end of a whimsical episode would have been very creative thing to do...oh yeah..we're talking Star Trek TNG here, where four out of its seven years were in prep for the movies...

HEY! I was going to say that! :p

Not exactly. Rick Berman has said that at the time, he didn't know they'd be spinning off into movies after the show went off the air. If he had known, he would have saved some of the better episode premises (i.e. "Yesterday's Enterprise") for movies. They definitely weren't ready to make movies, as evidenced by the fact that they'd used up pretty much all their good ideas (naturally, after 7 seasons) by the time the movies started, resulting in 3 out of 4 them being very disappointing.

Q: What's Robin Hood most famous for?
Geordi: He robs from the rich and gives to the poor...
Q: Besides that...

Well I would have put
*merry men
*green
*living in the forest
*shooting an arrow in two
*being loyal to king richard
above the rescue of maid marrion...
