I want to know if anyone has heard of a new star trek series coming out in either 2009 or 2010. I really am anxious to see some new star trek and I just hope a new series is under construction. What have you guys heard?

I doubt there has even been a serious discussion about a new series. The movie did so well I'm sure Paramount wants to ride that wave and do another, or maybe two more movies before they even think about a new show. Frankly I'm ok with that.
I hope not.

Try 2015 or 2016 instead...I actually don't think CBS is in any hurry to do another Trek series, especially with Moonves still in charge, IMO...
I wouldn't be surprised if some rumors started to come through around this time next year.
Well, even if CBS decided to commission a new series TODAY (as in August 14), I doubt they wouldn't manage to get it on air in 2009. Maybe a January 2010 premiere if they really speed it up (and this would still be a stretch), but not this year.
I have to admit I long to see all-new Star Trek back on television. It's only reason I had BSkyB (satellite) installed in the first place. A couple of years later, Enterprise Mondays finished (or was it Sundays?). So I cancelled my subscription and went back to managing with free-to-air. The new Doctor Who series started up that year, so it wasn't so bad I guess. But I'd have preferred my first love to stick around for the full 7 and even if it meant giving Rupert Murdoch £20 a month... but as I understand it, he went and bankrolled BSG instead.
What would a new series be on though? Do you think it would be something to do with Abrams' film(s), or maybe something after the events of Voyager?
I think I'm leaning more towards "after the events of Voyager" because I grew up with TNG, DS9, and VOY, and would like to see that legacy continue more.

I'm not sure which universe I'd want the series to take place in. I suppose I'd like to see something from the new one to give the movies a little more weight in creating their own mythology, tone and all that stuff.

I'd like to see a complete change from the Voy/DS9 era stuff as its so stuffy and over saturated. I'd prefer that they do something completely fresh and new while keeping the trek essentials, and no prequels whatsoever!

I sure hope not, unless it stars the cast of the movie. Frankly, I cannot fathom to watch any of the series beside TOS and can stand the cartoon. But other than that, I sure hope there is no series, it'll be a complete flop!
