What emotions do you feel when you look at pics of yourself as a kid?

I know some people might not be sure of the answer, because it's something that most people proaly don't think about and most people don't really look at childhood pics of themselves to even recall what feelings they were having, the last time they did look at a old photo of themselves.

For me though the answer is sadness. Do childhood pics ever make you feel sad? You ever look at yourself and feel bad for the kid, knowing he/she will grow up to be you? That he/she will have to deal with all your pain.

I look at the kid and go, "Wow, you look awkward. Good thing you'll grow out of that."

Sometimes I look at my childhood photos and am wistful for times that were a bit more simple, or at least felt that way. Then again, sometimes I wonder if that child saw me today, would he approve? What would he think?

It depends on the context - sometimes, wistful reminiscence; sometimes regret, of opportunities missed more than actions taken - I was a shy child, self-concious. Those memories aren't my favourites.

It varies with me from 'I wish it was those days again when I didn't have a care in the world and didn't have to worry about job applications' to 'didn't I have an awful hairstyle back then' (in case you're interested it was a Henry V style bowl haircut), but sometimes I think that if I was back at those times again I'd had to do all those exams etc. all over again.

One particular photo I have of myself was taken when I was a little over 1 year old, and I can actually remember posing for it when it was taken. I remember exactly what I was feeling at the time.

So now when I look at that photograph, and I see my face with it's Mona Lisa like half smile, I whisper to myself "I know what you're thinking", and I am quietly amused, because it feels like mind reading. :)

Sad, because I wish I could go back and be that kid again. I think, you are so lucky. I never wanted to grow up as a kid, I was a practical child and realized that growing up would mean a lot of shitty responsibilities. Apparently there's supposed to be benefits to being an adult as well, but I haven't discovered those yet. That kid is so lucky.

Grade school.

Fear. Anger. And Horror.

I had a terrible expeience in grade-school due to the area I lived in.

Jr. High/High School?

Nostalga, miss it, and whimsy.

I get a little annoyed. My parents seem to have taken plenty of photos of my 2 eldest sisters (one is 17 months older than me, the other 2 1/2 years older) and even more pictures of my brother (3 years younger) but there are hardly any photos of me.

Even when my brother was a baby and having his photo taken quite a bit it seems that my parents didn't bother to point the camera my way. There are a few family portraits that I am in and later a school photo of me, but thats about all.

In my mother's living room there are studio photos of each of my sisters and of my brother taken when each of them was about 6-8 months old but not one of me. One of my mother's neighbours thought she only had three children because there are only three baby photos on display.

My sisters said it was because my parents were strugling when I was a baby but if that was the case why are there photos of all the other children? And why, when they were so busy taking photos of my brother did they not have photos of me taken?

EDITED TO ADD - I was also the only one of my parents' children whose birth wasn't announced in the newspaper.

Depends on the picture and my mood naturally.

Sometimes I feel envious -- I wish I could once again be as carefree as a child, without any responsibilities. Plus there's something to be said for not yet having the hormones that have turned me into the sexually-frustrated adult I am today. ;)

On the other hand, other times I think about how fortunate it is that I'm no longer as chubby and awkward as I used to be, so I suppose it balances out.

I feel adoration. I love that little kid who was me. I was kind and sensitive, I loved animals, I was a voracious reader and TV watcher, I loved Dinosaurs and Astronomy, and I was filled with an endless sense of wonder. And I had a constant urge to create, to write stories and draw pictures.

And, in the immortal words of Steve Winwood, "I'm the same boy I used to be."

Disgust, mostly. I was a fat, ugly, unhappy kid. And I wasted a lot of time being miserable when I didn't necessarily have to be.

Revulsion. Thankfully I have very few picture of me, and even fewer from when I could still be called a kid by anyone but Mallory.

I think, "That poor little bastard's got no idea what's in store for him." And then I kind of wish he'd been less quiet or reserved--and more assertive, because it probably would have saved him a lot of pain.

Alas!

No, I don't feel that way at all. I'm happy with who I am, although I hope to always improve.

What I reminisce about is having less responsibility and just playing as a kid. I still play a lot, just not as much.
