This is probably only of interest to older Australians - Mr Squiggle the puppet has been stolen. It seems that he was on display in a shop in Hobart when someone managed to kidnap him!!!

I would be interested in non-Australians opinions of rhe artistic ability of Mr Sqiggle which you can see here

Mr Squiggles has quite a neck-- not to mention nose. He's not very nice to Miss Jane, though.

What kind of a clown would kidnap a puppet? I hope they rescue him before he's damaged. How old is he?

RJ, how old is he? Well, I watched him when I was a little kid! Maybe even pre-school. Black and white days.

When you consider how hard it would be completing a drawing using a puppet, you have to admire them.

Slightly off topic, it used to nark me no end that Aussie performer Rolf Harris got bagged as a bit of a cheesy performer (a dag, as we saw in Oz), when he could sing, write songs, and paint damn clever paintings with a house paint brush. A bunch of blobs on a wall suddenly turn into something - just brilliant.

I'm pleased his artistic ability is finally being recognised. And last year at the Australian music awards, the ARIAs, usually the stomping ground of young hip things, they give him a Lifetime Achievement award and a standing ovation, which reduced him to tears. Damn right, it was overdue.

Mr Squiggle was celebrating his 50th birthday. I think he was on a tour or something and that is why he was in Hobart.

He was on Australian TV for 40 years from 1959 until 1999 and I believe that his show was the longest running in Australian history.

One of the reasons so many of Mr Sqiggle's paintings were upside down is because the puppeteer was above the painting. However sometimes he was able to draw the right-side up or even on the side.

I must admit that as a small child I loved Mr Squiggle but I was afraid of Blackboard because he was so grumpy and was always telling them to hurry up. I thought that Bill the Steam Engine was a little boring.

Well I like his nose!

He looks like a cross between Howdy Doody and Pinocchio.

People are pathetic no matter what the continent. They stole a 2 ton statue of liberty outside a deli in Brooklyn and they "murdered" it and sent in the photos. Damn kids.

Wow, the little guy is practically an antique. I hope the kidnappers don't destroy him.
