New dog

You might recall a previous thread I posted about a pug we rescued earlier this year. Well, we've adopted another from the same rescue. We just got her today. Her name's Violet, and she was tossed out of the window of a moving car by some unknown individual who, needless to say, deserves to die in the most painful manner possible.
Fortunately, some good samaritan witnessed this travesty and brought her to a shelter, and she subsequently found her way to the pug rescue. She's a real sweety, and we're so grateful to have been given the opportunity to give her the kind of home she deserves.

In the following pics, it's her on the right:

She's kind of limpy from injuries to her legs, but it hasn't slowed her down. She's happy to be sleeping on a couch, eating treats and running around playing with her new sister. Once again, the cats are skeptical, but they'll adjust.

I second that. Anybody who stops their life to rescue any animal is a superb person in my book.

Ya gotta wonder how anyone could do such a thing to a critter with a face like that.

Having been involved with horse rescue and dog recsue organizations for several years, I guess the callousness and stupidity of humanoid bipeds should no longer surprise me.

And she's very well-behaved, too. Someone's obviously taken the time to train her, which leads me to believe that the car incident was done out of spite by someone who was mad at the dog's owner. Asshole boyfriend, perhaps. I don't know. Whoever it was is garbage. She'll never be exposed to that kind of abuse again.

She's adorable, I never cease to be amazed at the cruelty that some people are capable of. Good on you for providing her with a home and love she deserves.

Our other pug, Siu Mai, was in a puppy mill for six years, popping out babies. Somebody working undercover to expose those types of places rescued her and a couple other pugs from there. They were being auctioned off because they couldn't breed anymore. When they can't produce and nobody buys them, they're shot. So I'm very glad that person was in the right place at the right time.

We also have two cats who are rescued. One came from an actual rescue, the other was just a stray kitten who needed a home before she ended up getting killed.

An old boss of mine volunteered at a pug rescue. He'd tell me stuff when we'd be on the road for work that would make my blood boil.

I donate money from time to time to the local retriever rescue. I don't always agree with the way these places operate, but overall they're a good cause.

I hate to say my beagle was from a backyard breeder, but at least it was well maintained, with very tidy kennel (3 of them, one for the sire, and two for both dams and/or the pups. Neither dams appeared to be pregnant when I got my dog. They seemed to know what they were doing. I think I was lucky on that end.

But years from now when I'm ready for a new dog, I'd like a rescue dog or something like that, no breeders (professional or backyard ones).

One of my two rescued cats was also thrown out of a moving car. Even w/ surgery and physical therapy, his broken leg didn't mend quite right, so he limps, but it doesn't keep him from jumping or slow him down at all.

My dog came from a professional breeder. We asked all the questions going into it. I didn't want a dog from some hack who's bitch got knocked up by a stray in the woods one day. But I was a little gun shy about rescues for a couple of reasons.

My boss was heavily involved in a pug rescue at the time. Many of the dogs they took in and offered for adoption were really special needs dogs that need a lot more attention and vet care than the typical dog. My wife and I both work all day and honestly don't have the extra time or money to make that kind of commitment.

The other thing was the Lab rescues I looked at seemed to have a lot of red tape. I was put off that they wanted in home interviews and reference checks, etc. I can understand why they don't want to put an already traumatized dog into another bad situation, but it seemed excessive to me.

She looks very good to have been abused so. May she have many happy years with you. My guinea pig came from a rescue and I'm quite satisfied. I don't think she was abused. I was told the family just couldn't afford to feed her and the children. She developed heart problems but takes her medication and seems to be doing fine. Personally, I think the hit the jackpot when I got her. I built her a 27 inch by 71 inch C&C cage; I use fleece and towels for her bedding (it's much cheaper than litter); she has all the hay she can handle; and gets lots of attention. I'm always passing by and talking to her or petting her. She's not much for sitting on my lap but we have a little 'lap time' daily.

I like pugs, one of only three small breed dogs I like (the other being the Boston Terrier and French Bulldog).

You did a great thing by rescuing her.

Yeah, medium or large breed for me too.

I LOVE Boxers, with Labradors being my second favorite.

I just adopted a German Sherpherd mix (female). 8 months old.

After seeing how she reacts with kids and other dogs (she was very gentle and tolerant), I couldn't resist.

She is assertive, but not aggressive at all (afraid of nothing, but approaches kids and dogs with licks).

I signed her up for a class to make sure she gets full socialization, although the trainer of the class that evaluated her tells me that she will be easy to train with positive reinforcement.

My other dog is slowly warming up to her -- I just feel good that I saved a life -- and a sweet dogs life.
