How is your colon?

WARNING: THIS THREAD CONTAINS POOP TALK.

I'm trying to figure out just how unhealthy my colon is. I feel like I have some serious digestive issues, probably due to insufficient amounts of fiber in my diet. I have recently started taking Benefiber a few times a day to try and help.

My friends and I were also up late the other night watching an infomercial for "Dual Action Cleanse," which supposedly cleans out the leftover bile and fecal matter that's stuck in your system. It said we can be carrying up to 20 lbs of extra waste in our systems because we eat so much processed food.

So, a few questions:

How long is your average poop time?
It takes me 15-45 minutes every time. My roommates and I all took fairly long poops, but other people in my life seem to think that this is way too much time, and that my average should be more around 5 minutes.

Have you ever had your colon "cleansed?" How did you do it, and how did it improve your health and digestion?

What do you do to maintain good colon health?

It takes me much less time that that, usually no more than 5-10 mins. However, reading a "Poop of the Day" calendar I got for last Christmas apparently the duration and frequency vary a lot, some people go 2-3 times a day, some go 2-3 times a week.

Have you gone to any health stores and got those colon cleansers? They have ones for your stomach and other things as well. I used to get the stomach one and WOW. It cleans you right out and you lose weight from crapping so much but you feel better after.

I forget what it's called but I think it had a picture of a sun on it or something. I think my husband has a box but I'd have to look through the cupboards to see what it's called. Maybe you should check out your local health store and give one of those programs a try.

I'm considering it. While the infomercial I saw seems to be a bit of a scam (the very first thing they do on their website it prompt you for your credit card!), I was definitely intrigued by the whole idea. It seems worth investigating.

It usually takes me between 5-10 minutes to file my important paperwork. It used to take me longer when i was a child.

WOW, 15 - 45 minutes?

Mine is like 60 seconds or less. It just flows out and smells like roses.

Same. I feel the urge to go, I sit down, and I'm out in under a minute. No difficult pushing required.

It it takes half an hour for you to poop you probably do have a problem with your diet. I'm no expert (thank god), but that would make sense.

Try this stuff: http://www.activia.us.com/ . It's probably a lot cheaper and they have some kind of money back guarantee. My sister said that it helped her.

I feel the need to bust this out again:

I'm sticking with the Benefiber right now, and I'm making a conscious effort to eat more fiber in general (fruits and whole grains).

If you have problems on a regular basis you should add psyllium husks to your diet. The best is a product called Kon-Syl. It's a powder you dissolve in water Once or twice a day will straighten you out. It isn't the most pleasant substance in the world to drink though so if you can't hack it you can take Metamucil 3 times a day. It gives you the same amount.

See, I just don't know if it's a "problem." I've been like this my whole life. I've always taken really long poops!

Actually, when I needed to cram for an exam the best spot would be the toilet. So I could easily spend an hour on there. Not that I needed it. It was just a very relaxing atmosphere.
