My sister Want's to get A PS3, is it worth it?

Yoda, no comment was directed at you... well, other than the one that had your screen name. That one was directed at you. :p

We actually agree on a lot of things here.

OMG YOU CALLED ME A LIAR. Rude. Two or three times wasn't a definate answer but it has most certainly been an EXTREMELY rare occurance for me. Maybe I'm lucky? I don't know but I hardly ever have to update.
I was leaning towards you having a bad memory, but yeah I threw it out there as a possibility :)

Sorry, my mistake then. And I do appreciate the girlie pics, even if sometimes I'm not thrilled about the individual girlies. :)

I like my PS3, and I'm glad I bought it, but I have to admit that I do use my 360 for gaming more often. I use my PS3 for Blu-ray, streaming media, etc., and for whatever PS3 exclusives I want (i.e. Uncharted), but most of my games are played on my 360--particularly FPS games. I find the Xbox controller to be so much better for FPSs; playing a shooter on the PS3 just feels wrong.

If you use PS3 Media Server to stream your files it'll automatically mux MKV to MP4 (same codec, different container) so it'll play just fine on the PS3. I use this feature every day.
This isn't completely true. It depends on the file. Anime viewers (such as my self) will almost always get a "file can not be read" error because of the nature of how they encode it into MKV. As a matter of fact, even with .avi I have plenty of files that won't play. The problem is that you can't install codecs and the like into your PS3 so there are many files that won't work even if they are supported
See here's the thing, if you've got a bunch of different codecs installs on your PC, then you can tell PS3 Media Server which one to use for transcoding. I've got five of 'em and if one of them doesn't work one of the others usually will. I'm serious here, like I said, I use this feature every single day quite a bit and it works great for me.

How do you tell it which codec to use?

^ OK, so you go to the folder where the video you wanna play is located. Instead of playing the file, select the #--TRANSCODE--# folder. Once inside it, pick the file you wanna play, and then you'll see a list of possibilities (like MEncoder, Avisynth, TsMuxer,...). Just pick one and see if it works. The number of options will also depend on the file you're trying to play.

And once again another threads descends into a pointless 360/PS3 wang rubbing contest.

I don't even know why people are even bring the 360 up in this discussion, it was not in the OP question and had nothing to do with the topic.

Do you know anyone who is so fanatical about his or her political beliefs that they can basically list it as their religion? On this board there are a few 360 owners who are like that.
You know what else we have on this board? A guy who spends hours a week compiling photos for 'genre babes', a clear sign of having poor contact with the opposite sex in real life, and then calls other people girl-starved

And once again what does that have to do with this topic, your once again way off topic and are now into taking digs people on this board....get some perspective.

If your that desperate to praise MS and the 360 then go make your own thread about it, don't ruin other people threads with this nonsense.

Only four pages in and now we have moved from 360 is best to slagging people off.

People actually care about exclusives? Wow....

I could care less about them. A game is a game is a game. I just want to play it. NOTHING in the gaming world is exclusive and I can't believe people still fall for that. Eventually, every game shows up on another console. I don't see a problem with that.

The vast majority of games I play on any platform are exclusive to that platform. I hadn't given it much thought until now, but multiplatform titles don't, as a general rule, tend to interest me.
