attention girls: embrace your inner...

I am wierd.

We have the entire kitchen completely stuffed with temptations. I have learned to live with it, because it is basically me buying it.. hording it like a chipmunk for winter. I am in essence an "addict" and I have worked on myself for the past 5 years, successfully for the most part. IF I don't have it at home I panic, but I don't need to eat it myself.
And I want a fully stocked baking cabinet (hello.. I have like 20 bars of different kinds of chocolate in there) so I never have to go out shopping first (but I always seem to find an excuse to do so anyways). But still. I don't eat it.

I eat when I am bored or nervous, or if i want to "treat" myself and so on and so forth.
But eating it just because it is there? nah, not so much.

Anyways, yesterday went fine. And I braved up and stepped on the scale. It was nicer than my brain has been thinking I was at.

Oh I'm the complete opposite. I'll eat it just because it's there. And sometimes I'll eat it until it's completely gone...it's disgusting really.... the run in's I have with some snacks I tell you! So to combat that...I don't really keep to many snacks in the house...it's pointless because they don't last very long at all. But I'll go over a friends house and I'll see the same snacks as I saw the week before and I'm friggin amazed. I just wonder and awe at how you can keep a box of devil dogs in your cabinet for a week and not open them (and in my case eat them all).

Kestra, fresh fruit and veg delivered to the doorstep everyday sounds delightfully decadent! How come you haven't moved there yet? :p
As to the chest verses tummy thing K'ehleyr, doesn't work so well for those of us not very well endowed at all. :( By those measurements, I'm in real serious trouble!

The best advice (and I apologise cos I can't remember who posted it) is a long as your chest is bigger than your tummy, you're not too bad. :)

** looks down **

Yeah!

Of course, with large bazoombas I'm probably cheating...

Fresh veg... I usually manage to grab the men for a proper sit down meal at the weekend and cook lots of veg ~ cabbage, greens, leeks, carrots whatever. What's left I portion off and freeze for me during the week. Man eats at his house and son is happy with a portion of that with some sweetcorn.

And kimc, I'm in the same lucky position ~ especially now they do some lovely bras for 36Ds ;)

You're only human... I don't trust anyone who is able to cut out all treats from their days - means they're definitely insane in some way... look at Madonna and Gyweneth Paltrow - they apparently have the same instructor, who has told them to eat only one meal a day, usually steamed fish or grilled chicken in the evening, and a little bit of olive oil to drink to stop them getting constipated because they're eating so little.

So, let me get this straight, they're filthy rich and the world is their oyster, yet they are half starved, constipated, and no doubt constantly in a bad mood and exhausted from lack of nutrition... definitely a recipe for happiness!

I wouldn't want to go quite that far! I do think they both look extremely unappealing. :wtf:

... and as miserable as sin. Oh for a pap shot of the both of them tipsy and covered in chocolate cake :guffaw:

How do you ladies balance your diets when you're cooking for others? I mean, I try not to do a temporary diet, but make overall healthier choices for myself. But it's difficult because I don't want to deprive my husband of some of the things he likes if I'm trying to eat differently. Am I making any sense here?

I literally serve up half as much for me as for the boys. I eat really slowly too, as I'm always nattering :)

Hi, girls. Do you mind if I ask you a question about clothes?...

To add to previous ~ find a style that flatters you and that you are comfortable with and stick to it. Could you find a store that has a free shopper service that you could try their advice? Or take a trusted, honest friend and go through your wardrobe?

... I just wonder and awe at how you can keep a box of devil dogs in your cabinet for a week and not open them (and in my case eat them all).

Man sat and ate a box of chocs last night, I had 2 he had 18 total 900 cals ~ he can afford to do so though :(
Unfortunately for me it's if there's an open bottle of wine it is never just one glass ~ unless it's a very, very big glass ;)

Thanks for your advice and comments, ladies. If someone else had posted my comments, I'd have replied as you all have. I think I need to be happy with my own body and then I'll be happy with my own style.

^ And men like confidence...no matter what your body looks like. If you are lacking in the confidence dept you just have to fake it and after awhile I think you may really gain some actual confidence rather than it just be a facade. Give it a try!!!!

Can't help on the clothing thing - I always look out of place. But just wanted to say - I love your current avatar, WB! I always enjoy your pictures, but this one makes me smile whenever I see it.

But I want to ask. What about the ladies here? Do any of you get this thing where whatever you wear, you feel like you're wearing the wrong thing? :(

I know I'm a bit late here, so I hope you don't mind if I chime in!

I'm always wearing the wrong thing. I am great at picking out clothes for someone else, but I sometimes dress like complete garbage myself. Other times, I can pick out really cute things. It just depends. No matter what I wear I feel like people are staring at me and picking it apart and it just feels awful awful awful.

So here's what I've learned to worry about. Do I feel comfortable in what I am wearing? It doesn't matter if I have a terrific outfit on if I feel awful in it. That will show. Second, am I dressed appropriately? Meaning, formality. I don't care about trends and whatnot, but I do think it's important to pay proper respect to different situations with different levels of dress.

Everything after that is just a bonus, in my opinion. If you want to look more in step with fashion, or find things that flatter your shape more, or attract the attention of people, you might want to ask for advice on your wardrobe specifically.

I am just really bad at clothes. I play it safe if I am on my own, and I listen to a few peoples advice.
AA for example is very good at seing what "fits well" and is painfully obvious when he does not like stuff. I can see colorfit better though. He has even been so good as to organize my wardrobe into "sets" and "nice things" and "leasure things" and the downright "only wear it because you love it." piles :D
I don't listen completely to him, since some of the "oldest stuff you own!" is still pretty to me .. but I prolly should sometimes :D
Sometimes it makes me nervous that I am again taking the advice on what to wear from someone other than myself.. but most of the time I am just very relieved that I don't have to think about it too much.

Can I borrow him (and you too, Kestra!) in a few year's time when I have to go back to work?

No-one minds if a mom of two youngsters wears a revolving wardrobe of sweatpants and jerseys with varying amounts of food on them. But I think office standards might be a bit stricter...

I would love to help! I'm great at helping others pick out clothes. I'm sure no matter what you wear, you look great, though. :)

I live in blue jeans and pull-overs and tennies. *sigh* I need some new church clothes for winter, and I'm dreading it.

I'd rather buy books.

The important things to remember when you go to buy new clothes are:
1. Not everything is going to fit you and not everything is going to look good on you. Even if you're slender and beautiful, not everything is going to fit you and not everything is going to look good on you. So don't get discouraged if you try something on and it doesn't fit you and/or doesn't look good on you.
2. Therefore you have to expect to try on lots of stuff.
3. And if you try something on and it doesn't fit you and/or doesn't look good on you, don't buy it.
4. Don't get hung up on size. Sizes vary. Concentrate on buying stuff that - you guessed it - fits you correctly and looks good on you.
5. And it needs to fit into your life, too.
6. And this is supposed to be fun. If it feels like a tedious chore, you aren't doing it right.

Words to live by! Or at least shop by.

And actually, I'd rather buy books, too. And shoes. Ahhhhh, those are some satisfying shopping experiences there...

Good list of points JK! And that's why I hate shopping for clothes. I get bored way too easily. If I can't find it straight away I give up :)

Catalogue shopping on the internet - me, a computer and a mug of tea. Much easier!

I try not to shop for upcoming occasions, because then I feel like I have to buy something to meet the deadline, then I get stressed out and inevitably come home with something not quite right, because I was rushed. I've mostly moved on from that vicious cycle in the last few years. If I see something perfect in a shop window, I pop in to try it on, even while doing something else, whether I have a special occasion coming up or not... I grab the chance, because chances are, next time you need it, it won't be around anymore. This means when I do have things to go to, I don't need to run around like a headless chicken because I'll have a few up to date solid bases to rely on, that I know fit and look good, which I can pull out and jazz up with seasonal accessories.

I'm not saying you should buy everything you see of course, just try random things on pretty regularly... 95% of them will not be quite right, but you'll give yourself a better chance of finding that one piece of clothing that is right just for you... which will heroically save the day whenever you're in doubt. That's my excuse anyway, and I'm sticking to it. :p

Also the clothes that these manufacturers make are often not for real women.
It can be trying to find clothes that properly fit if you're not thin.

I don't understand what this term "real women" that gets bandied about all the time is... no woman is any more or less real than other women... we're all built so differently, it's difficult to find identical shapes even among women from the same family! A large woman is no more real or less real than a thin woman, and vice versa... All these divisions are quite poisonous. It really gets my goat.

You're taking it a bit too literally. That is not what I'm saying.
A "real" woman is not a size zero....take a look around. And that's right we're all built so very differently but the manufacturers don't take this into account.

A real woman can be a size 0. A real woman can be 150 kilos heavy too and more so.
If you were born a woman, then you are a woman, simple as that. (Unless you are want to change your gender)

I think we need to change the phrase "real women" to be "all women" - designers do not design for "all women".

It's what is meant by saying they don't design for real women anyway.
