RAGE ON THE SUBWAY! (EAT FIST!)

Am I being incredibly old fashioned and 'British' here? I would never think of going into a fast food place and paying with a card :wtf:
It's like getting stuck behind someone in the quick queue in the supermarket paying for a sandwich and a drink on a card ~ Do you not have £1.70 in change in your pocket?

A card is often just quicker and easier. You swipe it, you get your receipt, end of story. No counting up bills or change, on either side.

I rarely have cash on me. I have direct-deposit so my checks go directly to the bank. For me to get cash I either have to go to the bank and take out money or go to an ATM, and if I don't use an ATM operated by my bank it costs arond $1.50 for me to get money out, or I can get "cash back" if I use my debit card at the grocery store.

So, in the end, I mostly live off my credit or debit card. My credit card is payed off -in full- every month so it's not a huge deal but the result is that I rarely have cash on me. The vast majority of places I shop/eat at accept credit cards or debit cards so it's not a huge deal. Yes, it's silly when on occasion I have to put that $1.50 coke on my card but what difference does it make?

If it's just me I pay cash. When I buy $40 worth of food for me and the Wife Unit, then I pay by card.

Sorry got to pick up on this one ~ $40 of subway to take to you and WOB who is at the diner that she owns :wtf:

Here it's not swipe and receipt, here it's ~ after going through the self checkout with your basket behind a mum with a small trolley whose 6 year old 'want's to do it' :scream:

Then queueing for the ciggie counter with your £3.10 in hand, you get behind someone buying lunch with a card. The time it takes to put in the card, enter the pin, wait for it to go through, then get your receipt from the girl ~ when you could have gone to the self checkout but didn't because you saw the mum and the annoying child...

... Yes, it's silly when on occasion I have to put that $1.50 coke on my card but what difference does it make?

And I am obviously cranky after being behind someone doing so

I'm just a cash girl ~ and have just opened myself up for jokes about that

I mentioned this up-thead, check the OP. :)

Like I said I find the fact that she has the technology and skills to cook anything she could desire, yet we eat Subway once a week. I guess the gourmet needs a night off sometimes. ;)

Exactly what I do as well. Virtually everywhere I go takes cards so it's all I use. Swipe, done, transaction complete. No change jingling in my pocket, no mass of paper money. And if it happens to get lost, I can immediately invalidate and order a new one. Can't do that with lost cash.

I'm still trying to figure out why anyone would eat at a Subway.

We have one near my work that is a quick and healthier option than many nearby places. I try not to do much fast food, but sometimes I simply give in.

Though I have to admit I had Jimmy John's instead today and it was so much more delicious. Also higher in calories. :(

In for a penny in for a pound, I say! or several pounds depending on the size of the sandwich. ;)

Ummmm how?

Interest rate, processing fees, "insurance", stuff like that.

Only if you abuse them and let the CC company run the show. You have to tell them who's in charge and not sign up for the high-rate cards with insane secondary products like insurance and currency conversion and all that nonsense.

Bingo. As I passed on the frills and pay my bill in full every month, my card doesn't cost me a cent.

I have a Visa CheckCard. All the convenience of credit with none of the stupid fees and rotten contracts. :techman:

I always carry around $25 of cash with about $0.50 worth of change. It just seems like common sense.

And while a check card is better than a credit card, it still has its fair share of downsides.

No ATM close by? Where was the Subway, out of town?

Sorry, had to ask.

And yes, the manager must eventually realise he's losing business by not having a working EFTPOS. Foolish.

Well, I fail to see how credit cards "take longer" in my experience they can be quicker than cash but it mostly depends on the processing/transaction speed ot the establishment's machines.

Most of the time for me it's swipe and go as many places anymore don't make you sign for transactions under $20 or $25.

Besides, I'd rather be behind a person with a credit card than a woman with a checkbook. When I see that get pulled out I just sigh and roll my eyes.

First of all, who the hell uses checks anymore?!

I write one check a month. My rent. All my other bills are paid automaticly or online.

Secondly...GRRRR Why do so many women, or people in general, wait until AFTER everything is rung up and the total given before they decide to get the damn thing out and start filling it out? I mean, could they not sign it, put down the date, memo and establishment name while waiting? Grrrr. Oh, and then when everything is rung up they MUST stand there and balance the damn thing right there in line. GRRRRR
