MU Question

I just finished reading "The Mirror-Scaled Serpent" in Obsidian Alliances, and next is "Cutting Ties" which is a NF novel.

I've never read any NF material. Is this in any way going to hamper my understanding of "Cutting Ties"?

No. I've never read NF either, and I loved Cutting Ties (and the later Homecoming).

No. Pretty much just the names are the same, the characters and events are different from in the series.

On a related note, I haven't read Turnabout or Treason yet - does the MU New Frontier stuff at all tie in with those books? Usually, after PAD establishes something extraneous, he'll tie it back in with the main series pretty quickly. Did he do that this time?

I believe he did with "Turnabout", which I haven't read, and there is a brief mention in "Treason", if I remember correctly.

Turnabout takes place after Cutting Ties and is linked to it. i don't remember about the Shards and Shadows story other than it is connected to CT.

dunno about Treason, not read it yet. (NO SPOILERS!!!)

The mirror Burgoyne has a different 'number'. Also, Soleta's father has a different name: in the RU, it's Rajari, and his mirror counterpart is named Rojan.

There is a part of Treason that follows up on a scene from Turnabout. It's a fairly minor part that you don't really need to have read the comic to understand. Most of the references are rather vague.

Well, I'm a fairly relentlessly obsessive completist, so I plan on reading Turnabout either way

I sort of liked it. The story was decent and easy enough to follow. I guess my main problem is that, unlike the TV series characters, I had almost no frame of reference for these characters. So any differences between the MU characters and the "regular" characters didn't resonate with me.

Another question: should I read the TOS-era MU story from Glass Empires or just wait for the full novel at this point? Any recommendations?

Honestly, I don't know how much an answer you'll be able to get before the full novel comes out. But I'd say get GE anyways, because IMO even if you decide to skip Sorrows of Empire, it's still worth it for the other two. Well, the Ent. one at least, I don't remember enough about the TNG to feel comfortable reccomending it.

Actually, I've read the other stories from GE - liked the ENT story, thought the TNG story was so-so.

Can't remember now why I skipped the TOS story. But given how much other stuff I have that I can read, I think I'll skip it and wait for the full "Sorrows of Empire" novel at this point.
