Holy Wasp nest!

I ran into my neighbour when I got home and he told me I have a wasp problem, and we went around to my back yard and there it was:

This picture was taken through the glass, my backyard has become unusable for the next few days now that I know they're there.

I unraveled my hose and I was going to spray it down, but then I got thinking that I would be left with a bunch of pissed off wasps who just had their nest destroyed. So I called an exterminator who will be here tomorrow.

You gotta hand it to them, for a bunch of bugs that's a rather elaborate dwelling.

Get a bucket kerosene, then go outside with a knife an a step-stool. Cut the top of the nest so it falls into the bucket of kero and slap a lid on it...

Wait an hour, then put the bucket some place not flammable and light it.

This can be taken care of without the use of an exterminator. I recently handled a hornet infestation of similar size.

Step 1: Wait til dusk, then crack it open with a big stick. Retreat quickly and wait for it to calm down.

Step 2: Spray the hell out of it.

Step 3: Wait a day or two, then remove.

Thanks guys, but unfortunately both your suggestions require me to go near that fucking thing.

Plus the nest is 20-something feet in the air. My ladder is about 1/4 that high.

I'd simply call the exterminator; it's their job. Besides, you don't want those wasps to seek refuge inside your house, after all.

Normally I would agree, however the nest seems to be attached to some kind of structure that the OP might not want accidentally burned down.

That is why you detach the nest and let it soak. Then take the bucket out in the yard and torch it.

Had a hornet's nest similar to it at my home in Texas, waited until dark, sprayed the crap with neuro-toxin (Raid Wasp spray) over a period of 4 nights..then knocked it down with a hose and put the damn thing in the dumpster..

I'm allergic to Wasp/Hornet stings so I can't have those buggers flying around any place I live.
