Holy Wasp nest!

Yeah, it was pretty cool actually. The little bastards froze solid on the sides and in mid-flight. Too bad you can't buy the stuff any more.

OMG.

*runs away far away*
Im so scared of wasps.. the most vile creatures on earth. Not even spiders are as scary.

This can be taken care of without the use of an exterminator. I recently handled a hornet infestation of similar size.

Step 1: Wait til dusk, then crack it open with a big stick. Retreat quickly and wait for it to calm down.

Step 2: Spray the hell out of it.

Step 3: Wait a day or two, then remove.

My suggestion involves fire therefore my suggestion is the superior one.

Combine the two.

I remember that's what my dad once did (I leave it to the reader to decide whether it was a smart plan or not). He sprayed the hell out of it, covered it in some kind of firelighting fuel and then chucked a match onto it and retreated indoors. The flames & smoke soon dealt with the wasps...

Mind you, we couldn't go outside for several hours until the angry horde either died or fled.

Fortunately, it was far far away from the house itself, so it was safe for us to do this.

YEEESSSH! I HATE wasps! I got stung by one of those sons of bitches when I was a child. I had a welp on my hand the size of Texas before the day was through! :O

Wow, that's nuts. I would definitely call someone.

My brother got stung in the face by 3 wasps when he was a little kid. Not a fun site to behold.

i remember having to deal with a wasp nest during my YTS training. put all the gear on to stop me getting stung and was sent into a room to pull the floor boards up to deal with it, used some sort of weird powder, dunno what it did to the wasps to kill them but the powder sure was tasty in a minty sort of way.
it was the scariest thing i've done to date, i sure wouldnt do it again.

Help me out here: It's all men who are offering these Fun-with-Fire-and/or-Explosives "remedies," isn't it? Then again, I think at least some of the For-the-Love-of-God-Just-Call-an-Exterminator folks are male as well, so I'd like to emphasize that I am not generalizing about all males when I say...

Are you INSANE? Or do you hate DBR and/or DBR's house that much? What did either one of them ever do to you?

DBR, you did good. Dealing with swarms of angry, aggressive creatures who are armed should be left whenever possible to those who are paid to do so.

If these were Bees i'd understand why they were going extinct from all your responses.
I guess wasps are next on the extinction list.

How the hell does your neighbor tell you that you have a wasp problem? Have you been out of town?

Wasps can build really fast.

I watched a yellow-jacket assemble six cells in about 10min one day, I'm out side reading and I look up and over and at eye-level at the corner of the rail and flag-poll there was a yellow-jacket... first it extruded the hanging thing, then flew off and got more material and built a cell then it flew off got more material, built a cell... not sure where it was going or if indeed it was the same one, they all look the same to me. :guffaw:

But anyway, it was rather cool. In the end I waited for one of them to leave then I flicked the cells down. Sure enough one showed up moments later. Circled the site and took off.

Get a really long hose, find a way to put it next to the nest, attach the other end to the exhaust on your car and smoke them out/suffocate them. Pesticides would work better but that wouldn't be as much fun.

I hate those things. Several years ago, I was watering some grain on my father's farm. While I was putting the dam in the ditch a few of them began flying around me. I tried to ignore them, but then they all attacked at once. I ran for the truck, swatting the damn things all the way. I had dozens of stings on my arms and face, and a few stuck in my hair that kept stinging me over and over. I came back later with a can of Raid and emptied it into the hole in the ditch bank that was their nest. I'm now a little more careful around them, to say the least.

As to the nest in question here, you can spray it with Raid without getting too close. That stuff sprays a stream of foam about 20 feet and it works very fast.
