Babylon 5 - I'm finally going to do it

Severed Dreams trivia: Jerry Doyle broke his wrist during the fight scene. You can see it dangling oddly when Zack is helping him up. What a trooper.

One thing I found really interesting is at the end of Severed Dreams, Garibaldi was using a cane to walk. Then at the beginning of the next episode he seemed perfectly fine other than the cast on the wrist. I guess they changed injuries off screen. ;)

I love the Severed Dreams arc, and SD really is my favorite episode of the series. There are more profound and creative episodes out there, but SD is such a tour de force. JMS said they blew the budget on SD, and as I rewatched it a couple of weeks ago, you can definitely tell. That space battle looks as good today as any other I've seen. I love Sheridan's speech proclaiming independence, and Delenn's "you are in front of me" speech.

And with the next episode, you get the wonderful Army of Light uniforms.

The originally written injury was a broken leg. The actual real life injury that occurred was a broken wrist. So he was supposed to hobble around on a cane but ended up breaking his wrist so got a cast instead. Life's funny that way ;)

Yeah I did see the last episode (And talked about it) last night. So that's what those uniforms are called. Kind of ironic that they are all black.

BTW, I noticed the whole alliance thing that was formed was called the Conspiracy of Light. Was that phrase actually used before (Or a few episodes down the line). I know it was about the light defeating the darkness, but I was just curious.

Now if only they'd had the correct name on Hiroshi's ship when she rammed! :vulcan:

I find the new uniforms SO much better than the old ones. AOL FOREVER! AOL RULES! I'm actually still on AOL dial-up :P

My one and only complaint about SD is that I thought the Earth Force ships turned tail and ran WAY too quickly after Delenn showed up. I'd expect a bit more shouting/negotiating back and forth, before any good task force captain would retreat.

I don't think anyone gets to be in command of a destroyer by being stupid. If it was just the one warcruiser they might have gone for it, but 3 plus an unknown ship? Not a chance. Out numbered, clearly out gunned and the Minbari aren't exactly known for negotiating their ultimatums. The fact that they retreated just proved that the Captain of the second wave was sane, rational and not given to suicidal idiocy. He tried to bluff them, Delenn called it, best to leave while they still can.

I agree with this. That, and it seems like even after ten years there were still some tensions between humans and the Minbari. Not worth starting another war, this time on two fronts, with a race that nearly wiped you out the first time.

I agree with this assessment. Although I always thought their abrupt about-face looked a little silly and girly. I laughed out loud the first time I saw it. It was like ... "Oh shit, time to go."

Sic Transit Vir

This episode was decent, not nearly as good as some others this season but decent. The reason why it wasn't as good was because Vir's fiancé was a bit grating. Perhaps it was just the actress, but there were times when I really wanted her to shut up. Other than that, the episode was good and featured some good laughs. Loved the very first scene with Ivanova naked, and then when she and Vir were talking about what women look for, the levels of sex for Centauri was great. As for the plot with the Narns, nice to see Ivanova take on the task that Vir was trying to do. Not much else to say other than that.

Haven't really talked about Vir that much. I guess that sitcom deal didn't work out since this episode pretty much brought Furst back full time. I've really liked how far Vir has come and he seems to be representing the pre-Londo dealing with the Shadows Centauri a lot.

At least she was fun to look at. :techman:

Seems like most Centauri women are. No one beats the Centauri from Born to the Purple though. ;)

So I cracked open my DVDs and I'm on the 4th episode so far. Is it just me or is the DVD quality not very good? I swear it looks just as good/bad as my used SLP VHS collection I taped off of TNT. Also, you can even see little artifacts / white dots briefly appearing on the screen. ... Also... only TWO commentaries for the first season?! WTF!

It gets better by the end of the first season, then takes a nose dive by the beginning of season 2. Luckily by the end of season 2 into 3the quality looks really good.

It's really bad if you are watching on an HD widescreen TV. Since the live parts were shot in widescreen, it's presented as such. The problem is when they transition between live and CGI. The CGI being shot in 4:3, the image is cropped to fill the widescreen aspect, and since the shots leading up to and coming back from are also in 4:3, these shots look bloody awful. Again it does get better in the later series, but it such a disappointment on my 42 inch HD.

Please WB, release a better version. :(
