I want to see gay people try and convert straight people!

I've been hit on by several gay men in my lifetime. Always flattered, but always said no.

Seconded. Though not nearly as much as women. And that's good, since I'm straight. More useful that way. ;)

Now that I think about it, I think I've been hit on by more gay men than I have by straight women.

That's a chin scratcher.

Men are usually more aggressive than women. In my experience maybe 1 in 5 women will actually hit on a guy. She'll probably give signals and the like, but won't initiate anything. You need to learn to be aggressive when meeting girls. Of course I retired from the game more than 10 years ago after I met my wife, so don't take my advice. :D

I personally very very rarely bother hitting on straight guys. What's the point? There are enough gay guys out there that there's absolutely no need.

Which is not to say I haven't found some straight men attractive. Like every growing gay boy I had a crush on my straight best friend at school. But I never actually hit on him, because I knew he was straight.

Also, I am not one of those gay men who enjoys the challenge - who finds a man attractive specifically because they're straight. If a man's hot, he's hot, but if he's straight, he's unavailable. It's pointless.

But then, there are plenty of men out there who claim to be straight when they're really not. I used to go to a gym in NYC that was right in the middle of the gay area, in Chelsea. The sauna and steam room in there were just a flat-out knocking shop. Every single time I went in there, there were guys jerking off, jerking each other off, sucking and even fucking. The morality of such a thing in a public place is a whole other thread, but my point is that many of these men were wearing wedding rings, and no doubt went home to their wives and girlfriends after sucking a guy's dick.

So these were nominally "straight" men who nevertheless have sex with men. Whether it's because they're secretly gay or bisexual, or because they simply had a hardon and knew where they could get it taken care of no strings attached, is not for me to say. But the net result is that these are "straight men" who are still worth hitting on because you can still get sex out of them.

Here's my take on it (at least in regard to males). Guys are guys, regardless of sexual orientation.

Single, straight guys (and many not-single, straight guys) will try to pickup on women. Whether those women are single, married, heterosexual or homosexual doesn't matter. Almost every dude's got game (unfortunately I've forgotten what that word even means :)).

So why would gay dudes act any differently than straight dudes? Gay guys are driven by the same hormones and impulses as straight guys. I doubt very much that they're trying to recruit other guys into the gay community, they're just looking to score (or find a relationship, or whatever...).

Not to throw off the discussion too much, but isn't that incredibly sexist stereotyping that had it been "women are women" and made a generalization, half the board would be up in arms over the comment's sexual denigration?

I've known several homosexual men and some are as feminine as a woman born female and some are as macho and rambo as Rambo. It's bordering on offensive that all men, regardless of sexual orientation are generalized into a single catagory. I'm sure there are several members on the board who can agree on how that feels.

I've been hit on by gay men and straight women, both the blindingly obvious and the incredibly subtle. Sometimes you notice it, sometimes it takes a while to realize it later.

As to the actual topic, I've never been seriously propositioned but would turn them down regardless. Just because men have an appearent stereotype as horndogs doesn't make it true. ;)

I thought so too, until a few months ago when I was almost knocked out of the train because the girl behind me was aggressively feeling me up after following me and touching me ass "by accident" throughout half the train. Shocked me a bit, actually. Fortunately, she was hot (very much so, in fact), and when she walked by she turned her head and smiled. That, and her ass, made it okay. :D

The only bad thing was, when I told it to my girlfriend, she laughed at me for being such a wussy, seeing as it happens to her more often. Bah, I was having a trauma and my girlfriend was laughing at me. Stupid woman.

Looking at it from the other side-

I'm gay and was visiting a gay friend (and I mean friend) in the UK. We were walking through Colchester on my last day there and I realized that I didn't have any pictures of one of those red postal boxes (yes, I know it's touristy). Anyway, while I was taking the picture this girl (i.e. she must have been in her 20s and I'm 32) comes out of a store and asks me for my number.
Certain I've misheard her (i.e. I'm in shock) I responded with the witty and insightful, "Excuse me?" and she repeated her request.
Not wanting to go into my orientation I replied that I was just visiting from the US, and she replied, "Oh, that's a shame," and went back into the store forlornly.
I thought the entire incident was hilarious (as have the friends I've recounted it too), though it got a little less hilarious when I realized that my friend wasn't just pretending to be a bit miffed that the girl had completely ignored him.

Well, a lot of straight people have experimented some time. But to do it week after week, well, I can no longer call that experimenting. If you ask me, they where bisexual to begin with, they probably just didn't realize it (or didn't dare to show it) early on in their lives. Let's not forget, that even a decade ago, it wasn't all that normal to not be straight, especially in the US.

EDIT: I said 'gay' instead of 'bisexual'. My fault. Sorry.

Being hit on is one thing, but being followed & stalked is another. Especially when the stalk-ee is 13, & stalker-s are over 30. One guy followed me in his car, passed by real slow several times & stared, finally he parked nearby & stared some more, I pulled out a pocket knife as a warning, he jumped in his car & rolled up real slow & said; when you waved I thought you were holding a knife, then I showed it to him & scared him off real good. I wasn't real flattered with the event.

I'm quoting myself to qualify a particular point - it may be safe to hit on these supposedly "straight" men in that particular situation, where no-questions-asked sexual contact is already on the table. It would not be safe to hit on even these not-so-straight men at the office or the family picnic.

Don't be too quick to apply the either/or paradigm. Sexuality is too complex and fluid a concept to be called either just "straight" or "gay." Yes, some can be defined easily so - I consider msyelf 100% gay - but not everyone. There are plenty of men out there who are quite happy to enjoy the pleasures of same-sex activity without labeling themselves as gay - and I don't think that's necessarily because of the Closet. For some it genuinely is just a case of knowing what feels good and being secure enough in themselves to know it doesn't define them. Sexual psychology is a fascinating and endlessly complex topic.

I think this little vignette actually explains a lot of your more vociferous opinions on the subject.

Well, looking back, I meant to say "bisexual" instead of "gay". Personally, I believe everyone is bisexual, even if it's a case of 99.9% one way and 0.01% the other way. But I agree with your point, it's a fascinating and endlessly complex topic.

However, those that have an appointment at that gym every week for such pleasures, but come home and proclaim themselves 100% straight, then I say they're in denial. Now, obviously, most people going there wouldn't be like that, but the possibility is not all that far-fetched. I know those who vehemently argue that they're 100% straight as can be... But still like to play with a man's body from time to time. I think that makes you a bit bisexual, at the least, or you simply wouldn't have an ongoing interest.

Same. Though nine times out of ten I'll try and get a pint from the interested party first.

Oh. I don't drink so it would be the equivalent of an actual "drink" drink.

You have a wife. Maybe I should be taking your advice.

I'm right there with ya. Frankly, it's getting old.

Well, it's not getting old for me or anything although I would much rather be hit on by women since that is where I'm actively looking. I figure you've been hit on a lot more than I have because of your general physique, since that's what most people see first. I'm overweight (but apparently pleasantly so according to one), and so see fewer offers from both sides of the table.

It might be different if I got hit on by any women at all.

Ugh, except for the dirty skank Sara at work. She's fucking gross and would sleep with anything.

Wow, harsh.
She also has a 4-year old daughter and instead of going home after work to be with her, she gets drunk at the bar and hits on random men who are staying at the hotel.

She also squatted and peed in the parking lot right next to my car because she was too drunk to realize that there was a bathroom in the building.

There are few people I absolutely can't stand. She's one of them.

Sounds like a skank, all right. I would feel the same way.

Yes, but that cannot be an excuse to get drunk after work instead of spending time with your 4yo kid. Especially if you don't have a boyfriend to take care of said kid.

More than that 808. & thanks for trivializing a kids traumatic experience by the way. The "vignette" you mention is one of many. My cousin worked at a restaraunt & the Mgr & asst Mgr had a bet on who would "get" him 1st. He managed to handle the sit with pretty good calmness for a 16 yr old, but that would making going to work a bit of a drag. He kept them at bay, ( these experiences give one a better understanding of what women go through). Another friend had 2 gay friends at college & they were getting high, they gave him knockout drugs, he began to blackout & ran out of the house & amazingly drove the car 3 blocks & woke up the next day with barf all over the seat. Experiences like these are more commonplace than you realize.

Good thing this doesn't happen with straights!
