The money fairy sprinkled dust upon me

Hmmmm...I need some "fairy lights," too. I believe I mentioned that I'd like to use them to illuminate my small but vividly colored collection of canning jars? I had assumed I wouldn't have any trouble finding any, but maybe I'm being overly optimistic, particularly since I was thinking that the "icicle" type would be best for my purposes...?

So have you actually bought your seredipitous lights yet, K'ehleyr?

^ I do remember. Did you check out the link to Cargo that An Officer put in her post ~ they have some nice delicate looking ones. Or for special occasions little tea lights would look great in coloured jars.

No I have to go and eat oven chips tomorrow to get my 'fairy vouchers' to shop for lights ~ oh the things we do for a twinkle

Oooh, oooh, oooh - aren't there battery-powered tea lights? That would be great and would also eliminate all those wires...

Oven chips = twinkle? Interesting...

It's a tough job, but someones gotta' do it, and get payed for it...

I once got asked to do a mornings mystery shopping, in return for a £50 Marks and Sparks voucher... I was quite looking forward to doing it, but didn't make the shortlist. Damn! And I love M&S food too - could've found plenty of uses! :D

^ There certainly should be. If not ~ I'll race you to the Dragon's Den with the idea

Congratulations on your good fortune.

"Money Fairy" sounds like the stage name for some particularly sleazy gay porn star... :D

Has anyone else had the 'money from nowhere' thing happen?

Yeah, I have. But I don't think there's anything too weird/mystical about it.

Thing is, there's a lot of money that can be made and a lot of ways to make it. It's just, most of the time, we can't be bothered to go looking since we have a steady income from one source and budget within that income instead.

Whenever I make a real effort to look for another revenue stream, I can usually find it. Might not be much, and so might not be worth the effort, but it's pretty doable if you have a slightly entreprenurial bent and once you find a successful formula it can last a while. I ended up starting two small businesses as a result of wanting to do a couple of hobbies more frequently so needed to make some money doing them to make it worthwhile. Now, if I wasn't full-time employed as well, I'd be able to expand those business instead. But I am employed, so I can't. But they tick along in the background, generating useful pocket money and when I retire, I'll scale them up instead.

To use another, much smaller, example - your money for market-research. I sometimes get the same sort of offers and tend to turn them down since I can't be bothered to devote the time to doing them. But if one wanted to, there are various organisations you can register with to get paid to do surveys/attend focus groups on a more regular basis. The only one I do is YouGov's surveys, which hardly pay anything at all (generally about 50p-£1 for a few minutes survey time), but I like doing their political opinion polls (I'm an opinionated so-and-so), so for me, it's worth doing.

It boils down the old time=money equation and down to opportunity cost - could you be doing something else with your time that you value more (either financially or otherwise) than the money generated?

Maybe you should start looking for customer surveys from clothing companies. I'm they would love to hear from an opinionated so-and-so. ;)

A little?! You had me fooled. :guffaw:

Really? Not bad, considering I have spent my entire life in California and Indiana. I owe my bilingualism to Dorothy Sayers, Agatha Christie, and a few BBC sitcoms. And maybe it helps that I also love tea (loathe coffee).

K'ehleyr did have to translate "fairy lights" for me a while back, though.

I so want to be a mystery shopper :techman:. Did do an online survey the other day for McDs to 'brainstorm' an ad for their new menu ~ was fun and I earnt £1.82 ~ Woopee!

Oh reminded me ~ I earned £20 in M&S vouchers for reading through a medical leaflet and saying if it was *understandable* or not. Spent the whole hour sniggering with the girl about the symptoms and what it treated, then spent the money on wine and M&S ready meals. God I regret losing that contact

Wow it's getting quite British in here.

*opens window*

Waves Union Flag in breeze  And poor JustKate has now been relocated to UK

Does out spare room ~ Laura Ashley bedding, Wodehouse on side table, Keeping Up Appearances in the dvd, Earl Grey tea in a teasmade and fairy lights. Welcome JustKate

Have to go ~ Son is waiting on machine. Goodnight ladies.

Oh, will kick him out on the sofa for your visit!

Yes, now quit rocking the crate you'll scare the UPS dude.

And this would be a bad thing?

Dear God - you know me so well! Was Wodehouse just a guess? Because I adore him! The English language's greatest comic writer of the 20th century.

And thanks for your hospitality, K'ehleyr!

Used to hide money in books all the time. I still, on occasion, open up an old reference I forgot about or some old 'Trek novel and 5 or 10 bucks will fall out. The most was nearly 200 bucks I had stuffed into an old encyclopedia.

It seems to be my task today to translate Britishisms for you, CorporalClegg. ;)

Fairy lights are tiny little lights - like those found on a Christmas tree, but of course some people use them in other ways.
