Which Doctor worked out best with the previous's outfit?

Dinosauricon

Lieutenant
Since Power of the Daleks doesn't exist anymore, it's hard to tell if Patrick Troughton walked around in Hartnell's costume, but it appears that the clothes regenerated with him (At first glance Hartnell and Troughton's clothes aren't all that different right off anyway).

Jon Pertwee is only seen *very* briefly with clothes like Troughtons, and from the side, in Spearhead.

Tom Baker is seen much longer in comparison in Pertwee's clothes in Robot. Interestingly his hair in Robot is much poofier than the initial regeneration shot, probably because of the time between seasons allowed him to grow the curly look.

Peter Davison of course famously unraveled most of the burgundy scarf in Castrovalva and discarded the burgundy coat pretty quick (Although Tom's coat would reappear in Mawdryn Undead where Mawdryn temporarily fooled the companions into thinking he was a regenerating Doctor).

Colin Baker spent some time in Davison's cricket outfit in "Twin Dillema"...

Sylvestor McCoy spent a good chunk of the earlier part of Time and The Rani in Colin's coat. He also tried on Pertwee's, Tom Baker(the 1980 burgundy coat and scarf) and Davison's.

Paul Mcgann of course regenerated without McCoy's clothes as he had been stripped for surgery and then 'died' and put in the morgue.

Christopher Eccleston of course was not seen in Mcgann's outfit due to the regeneration not being filmed.

Tennant spent the first five or so minutes of Christmas Invasion in Eccleston's leather jacket (and longer if you count CIN). So far, he is the only Doctor to be potrayed in action figure form with the outfit of the previous Doctor (In 2006's "regeneration" 2-pack). Tennant, while choosing clothes for himself, also briefly wears a Tom Bakeresque scarf, and one of the comic books has him wear Pertwee's red outfit for a brief while.

No pictures have surfaced of Matt Smith in Tennant's outfit yet, I don't think.

Best = Tennant in 9's outfit, the leather jacket looked good on him.

Worse = McCoy in Bakers outfit during half the story, not to mention the cheap blond wig in the regeneration scene.

Special mention = John Simm looked good in Derek Jacobi's first doctor like costume when the Master regenerated in Utopia

Let not also forget 10's metacrisis naked regeneration. LOL

Colin, if only because the 6th Doctor's regular costume makes any other choice of clothing a tremendous relief.

I think 9's jacket made Tennant look even skinnier than he actually is. 5's outfit actually quite suited Colin, sure as hell suited him better than what he ended up with!

Hopefully Smith won't spend too long in 10's gear, suspect it'll be a triffle too big for him...maybe he'll roll those trousers up first eh ;)

I'm going to cheat and say The Seventh when he tried out previous Doctor costumes in Time and the Rani. He looked great with The Second's huge fur coat.

In "Rose" didn't we see a picture of 9 wearing something like 8's Victorian outfit in the Titanic picture?

We did. I was never sure whether that was just after the regeneration or whether the Ninth wore it for the occasion but considering the Doctor rarely changes attire to "blend in" I've always considered it as just after the regeneration.

When they filmed the regeneration, Davison's costume didn't fit Colin Baker, and Baker had to keep the pants undone. Which resulted in Baker mooning Davison's wife, an act that endeared Baker to the production staff. :)

I don't think that's McGann's, but it certainly could be if they wanted it to be.

Hey, I was first! :scream:

:p

Indeed you were. Unfortunately, I loaded up the page in a tab and went to make coffee. Didn't see you had posted in the thread until after I put it up.

Therefore, I will not one-up you by actually Photoshopping it as requested...

Note that when Troughton gets up and dusts himself off, his clothes HAD ALREADY CHANGED. He was still wearing Hartnell's ring, but it quickly fell off and was forgotten.

Pertwee was the first Doctor seen to be wearing his predecessor's outfit, however briefly.
