lesser known tng ships

Thought I'd have a go at doing a few TNG era ships.
Tthe first is the darkfire class cruiser.
The ships were designed as the battleships of the federation, similar to the galaxy class and indeed share a lot of the same systems.
but the darkfires were built primarily to fight first and exploration second.
Built just after the Borg attack at worf 359 they pack more firepower then the galaxy class and are used mainly in areas of high risk of conflict.
They have a similar crew complement to the galaxies but due to their more combat oriented missions the family quarters are used for marines.
also they carry 50% more torpedoes.

I've avoided doing tng era ships before far too many curves for my liking but I may do a few more. got two more on the way, and escort and a dreadnought.

OOooooooo! Love this one!!! Use an Arrow-Class Captain's Yacht or a Morpheus-Class runabout/captain's yacht with this one.

^ Why do people always suggest that designers use other people's work within their own? Especially when it's some obscure fan created support ship that 5-6 people have heard of (And the Morpheus-class? Really? Is there a Neo and Trinity-class coming next?) I've had these suggestions made towards my own ships before, and it's really irritating. It's like going up to Ford's design director and saying "Hey, the new Mustang looks great! You should throw in the taillights from a Daewoo!"

What's the fun of designing a ship if you're just going to throw someone else's work in there?

As to the ship itself, I feel it could be taken further, as it's way too "kitbashed" as is. At first look it's basically a Galaxy stardrive with a Sovereign saucer and Nebula weapons pod. If this is supposed to be a lesser known ship, you have free reign to break out of the established designs. Maybe you incorporate the Galaxy nacelles into the design, but try your hand at your own stardrive and saucer configuration.

LOL... :guffaw:  exactly. Amen to that.

that's a really good design, nice lines.

hmm... mustang with daewoo taillights... quickly, robin! to the bat-photoshop!

Seems a bit fanboyish to me.

I kinda have to go with this. It looks like a Galaxy, a Sovereign, and a... What class was the Oddysey... Well, those three shoved together.

I mean, I guess it's a start... And I'm certainly no artist that could do anything that even looks that good. I could screw up a stick figure, if you'd like me to. :) However, if I were you, I'd take some common parts (like nacelles and whatnot), but create a new ship with new lines on the basic Constitution/Excelsior/Ambassador/Galaxy/Sovereign configuration.

This man speaks truth.

It makes me scratch my head when other designers ships get mentioned or suggested like that, mostly cos I don't know most of them since I don't go to sites like 3d meshes and such.

As for the ship itself - its decent but i agree again with Flux Capacitor that you dont have to go with a ship that looks like its made out of three others - just go with your own there.

Also, the writeup says its a pure warship with more firepower than a galaxy? hmmm, one would think just by looking at it that it would either be an exploration type or fleet command vessel/AWACS type. I know the Hidden Frontier fanfilm group modified their ship the same fashion for one of their last major productions.

I initially read the OP title as "lesser known TUG ship." Opened the thread and quickly thought "that doesn't look like a tug."

LOL
