HP is still going to get closer to 1 billion than Transformers...HP has major major pulling power worldwide of between 550-600 million.
"Porkies" featured sexual humor and nearly-naked chicks. TWOK featured William Shatner. There's no mystery here regarding box office.

Local IMAX sold 32 e-tickets after yesterday's 130. Not too shabby.
Quite possible, yes. Harry Potter and THBP has done huge business overseas, breaking Spider-Man 3's record for the highest-grossing 5-day opening weekend in the foreign markets and worldwide. Its foreign take now stands at about $237,000,000, which, added to the domestic take, makes its worldwide total $396,662,000. That was enough to propel it to the position of 4th highest-grossing film worldwide of 2009, knocking Trek to #6. Domestically, it's currently the 8th highest-grossing film of the year.
Surprisingly, the biggest film overseas so far this year has been Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, which has made $429,062,000 in the foreign markets (by comparison, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has made about $398,000,000 overseas).
Anyway, I'll post a list when I have more solid figures, probably tomorrow.

Looks like The Hangover is going to overtake Star Trek for the domestic 3 spot, though.
I'm wondering if Paramount will actually take steps to feature an internationally bankable star in the sequel. Of course, the danger is that said star would overshadow the main characters. Not that they are weak, but just due to that "star power".

The domestic is a done deal for XII, with the DVD coming out even more people will see it and enjoy it and be in for the next one.
But the foreign numbers are not a done deal like the domestics, just look at those other movies and how comparatively well they did, so I say it's worth it to push the foreign numbers up.
300/250 for XII is a reasonable goal, but it won't happen without star power that attract foreign audiences.
It needs to be done only once as sort of a hook, to reel them into the series. Then we won't need star power any more, because Trek is the real star power.
Well nothing is a done deal for the next one. If the writers stink XII up like they did for TF2 we could be in for a big opening weekend and steep drops afterwords with bad WOM. I wouldn't put all my eggs in the basket quite yet.
TF2 is a monster hit, so it must be giving audiences what they want to see, both here and abroad... and its legs are decent enough given the competition.
I think perhaps the more apt comparison would be Borat to Bruno; Bruno is dropping like a stone after an excellent first weekend based on bad word of mouth.
You know what, I would be be ecstatic if XII gets the numbers TF2 is getting. What I wouldn't be happy about is if it got the nasty reviews like TF2 received.
And so what if XII gets a front loaded haul, better that than a weak opening and legs, legs rarely carry a movie financially after a month, the first three weeks do statistically.
Yep. Paramount would be happy for a ST XII that performed like TF2.
If that piece of shit TRANSFORMERS sequel ends up making more than STAR WARS:A NEW HOPE here in the States I'm just going to go down into a bomb shelter, make sure I have plenty of dehydrated oatmeal and snack bars and wait for the Four Horsemen to arrive.
It's hard to compare them since ANH's number is based on at least 3 separate releases over 20 years, not to mention its 1977 ticket prices for a good chunk of that.
I don't expect Tr2 to get to $460 million anyway. I think it will top out somewhere closer to $430-440 million.
