The money fairy sprinkled dust upon me

The fairy lights (we've had this conversation ~ you do know what they are!) in my sitting room have finally given up and I wanted to buy new ones ~ especially in a dark and stormy July they add twinkle to my dull existance :(

So I trogged off to the fairy light shop and imagine my surprise when told they did not sell Christmas lights at this time of year  (I bet they will in a month's time :shifty:) So all that were offered were outside lights ~ which are Christmas lights but 20 x more expensive. I gazed lustily at some red chilli shaped ones but couldn't justify the money. I left, sad and twinkle-less.

In the high street I was approached by a woman ~ an unusual occurance, who asked me if I liked chips, yet more unusual. So I'm going for a market research session Thursday to eat chips ~ payment £10 in high street vouchers. 'Do you have a mobile phone?' Another MR session next week for £15 in vouchers ~ all exchangable at the fairy light shop enough for my red chillis

NOW tell me you don't believe in fairies

Has anyone else had the 'money from nowhere' thing happen?

This sounds awfully like the start of an X-Files or CSI episode to me

If we don't hear from you in a week, T'Bonz will have to release the hunting dogs.

Found a fiver on the pavement the day before yesterday. That was nice. :D

As to fairy lights, I was in Cargo with my mum a couple of days ago, and they had a very nice selection - I immediately thought of you (that's how you can tell I've been spending far too much time on the tbbs lately ). They are currently doing a half-price sale, too (at least, my local branch is). Enjoy! :techman:

Thanks Tramp, I now have the theme tune to X-files in my head :shifty:

An Officer ~ inspired!!! They are much prettier than red chillies. And ~ getting spookier... the first shop I walked passed after the encounter was Cargo and I never thought to look ~ that fairy knows it's way around my town too *goosebumps*

Until next Wednesday when I will skip, vouchers in hand, to Cargo (of course they will take them ~ they're 'fairy vouchers':)) Will post photos:lol:

Good call with the fiver, you could have bought a novelty goldfish, I'm tempted! and sorry I'm on your mind lol

I found 10 bucks in a parking lot a few months ago. Seems like that happened more often back in the day -- tis a rare event to find money nowadays.

But this is even better: I bought 2 fountains from a certain retailer, 300bucks in total -- I opened a credit account to get another 10% off. Well they entered in the wrong social security number so I bought all the crap but they totally screwed up my application! I told them about it..I called several times to let them know I didn't recieve a bill -- I have good credit so I don't want that jeopordized. They told me I had to refill out an appliation and then they'll bill me. I did that and they rejected me because of a home address decrepancy!! Called them again and they said I need to send in proof of this or that and I said "is this a joke..? I'm trying to pay you your money and you're making me jump thru hoops?"...I dropped it and got it all for free.
So thank you certain retailer...me and the birds are enjoying the fountains!

Excellent, man takes on the machine ~ man wins :techman:

What'll be even CREEPIER is when a set of red-hot-chili lights show up in the post.

:shifty:

It would be even cooler if The Red Hot Chilli Peppers showed up on my doorstep ~ just how much of an awesome Mum would I be then

^
I have chile lights hung in my porch. I could take pictures.

I think I've seen them ~ someone posted red chilli lights for me before. I am now thinking they are more an outside thing than just round my room. They are v cool thou

I do have the photos but they're safe with me *evil laugh*

No matter. She's gone I can resume rummaging through her stuff and installing cameras so I can watch her sleep! :techman:

Congratulations on your good fortune.

"Money Fairy" sounds like the stage name for some particularly sleazy gay porn star... :D

Has anyone else had the 'money from nowhere' thing happen?

Yeah, I have. But I don't think there's anything too weird/mystical about it.

Thing is, there's a lot of money that can be made and a lot of ways to make it. It's just, most of the time, we can't be bothered to go looking since we have a steady income from one source and budget within that income instead.

Whenever I make a real effort to look for another revenue stream, I can usually find it. Might not be much, and so might not be worth the effort, but it's pretty doable if you have a slightly entreprenurial bent and once you find a successful formula it can last a while. I ended up starting two small businesses as a result of wanting to do a couple of hobbies more frequently so needed to make some money doing them to make it worthwhile. Now, if I wasn't full-time employed as well, I'd be able to expand those business instead. But I am employed, so I can't. But they tick along in the background, generating useful pocket money and when I retire, I'll scale them up instead.

To use another, much smaller, example - your money for market-research. I sometimes get the same sort of offers and tend to turn them down since I can't be bothered to devote the time to doing them. But if one wanted to, there are various organisations you can register with to get paid to do surveys/attend focus groups on a more regular basis. The only one I do is YouGov's surveys, which hardly pay anything at all (generally about 50p-£1 for a few minutes survey time), but I like doing their political opinion polls (I'm an opinionated so-and-so), so for me, it's worth doing.

It boils down the old time=money equation and down to opportunity cost - could you be doing something else with your time that you value more (either financially or otherwise) than the money generated?

Is that from your utility belt?

Plec and I have the same utility belt, though mines bigger ~ I've heard he hears that a lot ;)

Oh now you've cheapened the whole thing

I love doing those :) and at the moment have more time than money. I'm registered with a few online surveys but it's a drudge getting the ones that are nothing more than convoluted adverts. If you do know of any reputable ones please PM them, I would be very interested ~ I have lots of spare 20mins to earn a couple of ££s :techman:
