^ Yeah. The fact that the New Series forum gets a little crazy sometimes is no different than the way the ENT forum used to get back in day; personally, I always stayed out of both.

The ENT forum was a nightmare while the show was still on. I wouldn't want to hang around in a forum like that. Nowadays, it's actually a nice place.
I'm glad others had positive experiences with that forum. However, given that the owner and operators of said forum seemed to endorse such sociopathic remarks, I can't separate the "New Series" forum from the entire site. I just hope shutting this site down goes a long way in dispersing the negative elements back to their respective internet basements...
I was always there for the classic series only. With trying to avoid spoilers, seeing the series with my own eyes first and being stuck on dial up in those early years I couldn't download the eps so I stayed out of the forums. Then when I watched the new series it effectively killed my love for the old series (I just call it an 'interest' these days) and then during nuSeason 3 I lost interest in the new series too.

But the DWF never really bothered me. The and others have summed up my view on the attitudes and the way it was run. It was ok if you just lurked though.
I think Outpost Galfiery is going a bit crazy over the lack of 11th Doctor news at the moment, I can not count how many Mondays they have promised me a picture of the new Doctors outfit, and still nothing.

Not sad to see it go at all, very unwelcoming place, I mean they won't even let you browse the forum without joining, and joining was just painful. For gods sake it's a forum about Doctor Who, not National security, why does it have to be kept secret unless you're a member?

No, I wasn't. Which is probably for the best as I'm still slightly bitter about some of the things that happened in the ENT forum. Well, I guess we got our revenge with the acknowledgement in Trek XI...

Then afterwards, check the boards comments til I just couldn't stand the fanboy bitching anymore. Then I was done til the following week.

I don't know what most people do, but I used my college email address when registering. I imagine those without one use work addresses or free e-mail services that are low-profile enough to not be blocked.How did they get any members by banning people on free e-mail.
I've never posted, only lurked, and even then only occasionally. While interesting for the amount of discussion present and insight into Doctor Who topics I didn't know previously (having seen only a few episodes of the classic series and not knowing much behind-the-scenes stuff of even the new series), the level of fanaticism leads to a rather tiresome read. It definitely wasn't worth the hoop-jumping required to sign up. TrekBBS gets like that occasionally, but you can easily just switch topics and find saner discussion if something is rubbing you the wrong way. Outpost Gallifrey seemed to be nothing but RTD bashing and arguments over what era of the show was purest and whether or not everything should be exactly as it was during one's favorite Doctor's reign.
But I admit I'm judging as an outsider who has barely looked in, and my view may be too critical or not accurate.
I was a member of OG and I just mainly lurked. I found that some of the mods/admin were almost so rigid and unfriendly to some people it was disgusting. Some of those mods/admins are now mods in GB. I sincerely hope they don't transfer their nastiness to there.

I primarily left cos, with the exception of The Daleks' Master Plan 2 discovery in 2004, we didn't really have much to discuss except the same old stuff, and after a while it was clear we were having the same old discussions and pointing out corrections to newbies, so I departed.

I signed up there about the time the new series started. I mostly lurked, think I did post a half dozen times or so, just never really felt comfortable there and eventually stopped going. No real reason for it, just kinda stopped visiting. I noticed a few things going on between certain members, but I never really payed any attention to it.
I remember reading somewhere rumours that the Absorbaloff's human form was actually meant to be a crack at Ian Levine, who apparently had done something to irk various other members of Doctor Who fandom. Whether there is any truth to the rumour I don't know.
My experience of OG was trying to post several times and just finding that unless you were already there it was impossible to "get in", so to speak. I thus became a rather prolific lurker, just reading spoilers. The arguments about "canon" and over the show's new direction also made those in the Trek XI forum after the release of the film look small in comparison.
Gallifrey Base is the main one.
That's certainly how the character came across to me - a not-so-veiled dig at Levine as Uberfan
