It's July, where's the great music of 2009?!

I'm not much on current music, but Brad Paisley put out a (mostly) instrumental album this year call Play which is very good.

It actually was a 2008 album, but I agree that it is excellent. "Playing with Fire" and "Let the Good Times Roll" are two of my favorite tracks.

Keeping in mind I'm 50, I think most modern music SUCKS!

However, this is Aussie band Eskimo Joe, and I think it's pretty damn good!

From their new album Inshallah

-- this has been a drunkl post by Australis. Be glad you aren't me..

Perhaps you are listening to the wrong music. There is a lot of modern music that is amazing. The problem is, people tend to listen to mainstream music. The best bands are the ones who aren't playing on the radio every 5 seconds.

Not sure what type of music you like but a few of my favourite bands are Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath so if you like that sort of music, there are a lot of great bands that make similar music.

If you enjoy doom music, listen to Electric Wizard, Acrimony and Sleep. If you don't know what doom music is, think early Sabbath.

Here are some examples:

Electric Wizard (my favourite doom band)

Poker Face, the greatest song of the modern era.

Lady GaGa has better talent than what is demonstrated through her Pop Music, IMO.

And even then, c'mon;

Let's have some fun this beat is sick / I wanna take a ride on your disco stick

That line.. That voice.. You gotta admit, it's enjoyable to a degree.

The Eskies are cool...
Not a pun there Elim? :)

LOL. I think their last album was awesome, as was A song is a city.
Gather you're liking Newcastle. Some good bands there too.

I am. Much better than Sydney ... but still looking forward to the meetup in September at the Opera House.

I read something positive things about Grizzly Bear, but need to get the full album.

Apparently their Vecktimest album is astonishing. It's on my 'must-hear' list.

I read what Jonny Greenwood said about the band. As a Radiohead fan, that impressed me, and I heard a few songs.

As far as most party music goes, it's reasonably tolerable. Is that more accurate?

Well, they say February 3, 1959 was "The Day The Music Died". ;)

Personally, I vote for August 16, 1977 being about right. I certainly can't name much I like after that except for a random song here or there (few and far between). The '50s-'70s popped out classics left and right.

Be afraid when the dearth of the music industry today has you getting fondly nostalgic for music everyone used to make fun of.
