Saw it this afternoon, and generally thought it was excellent. I'm just pissed that Neville was reduced to the role of waiter at one of Slughorn's parties. What a step down after Order of the Phoenix. I fear his big moment in Deathly Hallows is going to be handed to someone else.

Ease up, darkwing.

What's to ease up on? I LITERALLY could not decipher what he was saying beyond that it was intended to be insulting...

There's no reason to be hostile. All he said was that your vision of what should have happened in the Potter books didn't appeal to him.

So ease up, darkwing. (That's strike two.)

With all due respect:

1) What hostility? I wanted clarification from him so I could respond to the content of his post, not his insulting tone.

2) Will he be getting strikes for the way HE phrased his remarks?

If Steve Kloves could figure out how to give that role to Hermione, I'm sure he would.

1.) Nearly everything you've posted in here has been hostile, and you haven't even seen the movie.

2.) Since he didn't get hostile, no.

Now will you just get on with the topic and be nicer about it? For crying out loud, it was a friendly.

Again, please don't use spoilers from the final novel in guessing what might be happening in the next movie. Some us have tried very hard to avoid the books prior to seeing the movies.

If it's something that happened in the novel of HBP, no problem.

Much appreciated.

Why did you make this choice?

It's kind of weird that an author is avoiding books in favour of films, since books are almost always a richer experience.

I know you're not asking me, but I'm answering anyway. I attempted to read the first book many years ago, and I thought it was awful. I couldn't even get halfway through it before I gave up.

However, I really enjoy the movies, so I'm trying to remain spoiler-free as much as humanly possible.

If that happened, I'd skip the movie. Seriously. There are some changes that should not be made.

That is an excellent question.

First, since I've been a non-stuffy movie critic for over 30 years, I like to judge a movie AS a movie -- if it can stand on its own, and if it works as a movie. If I read the book first, it ruins that complete objectivity. (I have a number of brilliant friends who can tell me the changes that were made after I see it. They all have liked the adaptations so far, and I'm assuming Rowling gets a wee bit of a say in giving her approval as well, so they're basically fine adaptations from her point of view).

Also, I don't read the book first for the same reason I avoid spoilers. I get to enjoy the What as well as the How. If I know all the surprises going in, then why am I seeing the movie? Just to see HOW they do something? That's only half the fun potential. I don't want to know who gets killed, or married, or hurt ahead of time. I want to be surprised. I want to see if the movie CAN surprise me.

That's pretty much it.

There were a lot of changes in this movie I did not agree with.

The backstory of Voldemort IMO is very important to Harry's story.

I can't help but think that some of this might be in the two part Deathly Hollows. I know DH is a decent size book, but I just don't remember all that much that could fill up two full size movies. Maybe I'm wrong...

It kind of reminds me of The Two Towers movie. The book ends with the Shelob attack, but they saved that part for the beginning of RotK. I hope this is something similar, and Kloves and Yates are just saving it for the next two.

why do you come here if not to learn information about the series as to what has happened and what might/will happen....

So do you go back to the book after seeing the movie? It's analogous to going from two to three dimensions. For example, reading the third book after the movie would have really been a "So that's what was going on there" experience.

who reads books... I do audio books... my supervisor bit&ches when I read a book... he's clueless if i just sit there listening to a audiobook....

besides their better... more like watching a movie... I recommend it...

But this is a movie discussing thread not necessarily a book discussion thread. Even though I already know what happens, I respect others desire not to be spoiled.

Just got back from seeing it. I haven't read the books, so the majorities of each movie are a surprise to me, save for a few key plot points here and there. I found Half-Blood Prince to be one of the most enjoyable Harry Potter films yet. I'd rank it in my top two among the six that have been released thus far.

I'm glad that we won't have to wait very long for Parts I and II of Deathly Hallows.
