That smacks of arrogance and narcissism, IMHO.
Refusing to compliment yourself once in a while is denying your own worth. Which is the worst thing anyone can do, IMHO.
Anyone can compliment themselves, so at best it's meaningless and at worst it's self-serving and arrogant. Compliments from others, however, are usually earned, and thus have value.

No one gets a swelled head from a few well-earned and earnest compliments. One does, however, from getting many that aren't actually earned, but they can be either from yourself or from others.I disagree. It's an in-built defense mechanism against getting a swelled head.
