Babylon 5 - I'm finally going to do it

Yeah. That one tends to get a bit overlooked. It's definitely one of the better episodes of season one. Though it does have a bit of a DS9 feel to it. (At least I thought so.)

Oh ... And you're in for a real treat up next. :techman:

I forgot one other thing. The guy who played Zento, did he also play the lead character on TNG's Masterpiece Society? He seemed very familiar.

I think my favorite B5 quote is one of Londo's as well....

"Vir...! Intelligence has nothing to do with politics!"

Another good one is, "Love? What does love have to do with marriage??".

He must have looked at my family.

That's him alright. His name is John Snyder and he also played Centurion Bochra in TNG's "The Enemy".

As for the workers rebellion, this episode is timely in a sense of the whole recession thing and lacking a budget. It was your typical workers rebellion episode, with an easy solution but the character having the solution being all badass about it. In that sense it wasn't bad.

this is one thing that nBSG did WAY better than B5. the episode Dirty Hands was stellar!

You know, I just realized that Sinclair's solution might actually have come up again later in the show. Specifically,
when the new defense grid crapped out in the season 2 finale. Maybe if the budget wasn't cut, those new guns would've been able to keep up with the enemy fire.

Signs and Portents

First, I can't wait till Morden Returns (I saw his IMDB that he does return). Looking forward to finding out more about him, even though after this episode I have a pretty good idea.

Second, holy crap. That episode was freaking awesome. So much foreshadowing, and we get to see the Shadow ship for the first time. That, and this episode outdid DS9's first battle scene I think. I mean most of Die is Cast took place kind of indoors with some space shots, but this battle around the station was some great camera work. It doesn't look dated at all, but just going in and out of the station was outstanding for a first big space battle scene. I really hope we see Ladiera again. She pretty much gave the series direction with the foreshadowing and it would really suck if we didn't see her again.

I'm also glad we got a little bit more on the Arc I've been loving this season, Sinclair's Amnesia. Kind of brings a new spin on things that the Minbari Government wanted him on B5 even though he wasn't high on the list. Man I can't wait to see how this stuff plays out, and it might be really exciting to see what happens and how we get Sharidan.

Awesome episode, and so far, I've got a definate top three: 1) Signs and Portants, 2) And the Sky Full of Stars, and 3) The War Prayer.

TKO

Someone up thread mentioned this episode has the last one before smooth sailing, and I have to disagree. I liked it. It's not top three material or anything like that, but I liked what it did with Ivanova and a good prizefight isn't a bad thing every now and again. I think I was more interested in Susan's story and her finally getting over her father's death (Or at least realizing she has to get over the death). I liked the prayer she said at the end and actually got a little emotional. As for the prize fight, the fight itself was pretty exciting. The stuff leading up to it I could take or leave.

I'm still getting over the fact that I saw a Shadow Ship and that thing looked absolutely huge in the previous episode. Holy Moly can't wait to see what happens next.

tomalak, I always have to ask this trivia question:

In the episode "TKO", Garibaldi's friend is named Walker Smith. What is the significance of that name? (it has nothing to do with the show)

"What do you want?" Dangerous four words...

I love Morden, and Ed Wasser played him perfectly. He's kind of a smarmy used car salesman that's not as pushy because he knows he will eventually get a "sale".

Ed Wasser was also in The Gathering as a part of the crew in CiC., though obviously not playing Mr. Morden

Personally I never found Morden's performance to be that amazing. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing on the level of Katsulas or Jurasik.

True, but I put those two on a whole different level. It's Katsulas and Jurasik, and then everyone else.

Making it all the more entertaining that a member named "tomalak" is interested in watching the show. :D

Yeah I didn't even think of that.:bolian:

As I am rewatching B5, I'm reminded of how sad it is that he (and Biggs)passed away not that long ago.:(

And Choate as well, but then again tomalak301 hasn't gotten to his episodes ... yet.

Only thing I can think of was a famous boxer with that name but I don't know.

Got it in one! Walker Smith was the real name of famed boxer Sugar Ray Robinson.

Actually, you're right. "Walker Smith" is the real name of boxing legend Sugar Ray Robinson, whom many consider the greatest boxer of all time.

And do you recall what Smith says to Garibaldi, twice I think, in this episode? Once when they first meet at the beginning, and possibly at the end.

Really. That's some good trivia right there.

I admit I had to go back to make sure, but he said to Garibaldi to watch his back.
