my mouse is double clicking sometimes when i only click once

Most likely the microswitch is worn out. In which case a replacement mouse or a repair is called for.

A temporary solution can be to reverse the handedness of the mouse, since the right button is unlikely to be worn as much as the left, and that will become your new left button.

It depends how expensive your mouse was and whether you feel like buying a new one. A proper repair would involve removing the worn switch from the circuit board and fitting an equivalent replacement.

And would likely be significantly more effort/expense than buying a new mouse unless you happen to have one which does the washing up or something.

My mouse has buttons either side that map to the back and forward buttons in Firefox. Very handy. :)

For Mac users, extra buttons (insert your jokes about single button Mac mice here) can come in handy for things like Spaces, Exposé etc.

whats the problem?

It's not likely, but there's a possible OS setting causing this.

Go to Start> Control Panel> Folder Options
under the General Tab, there's a setting area to set double click or single click to open an item.

It is more likely it's a bad mouse, but it's something you can check.

Get a wireless one if you can afford $100 a year in batteries.

Never heard about rechargeable batteries?

Mine always die.

Works perfectly for me.

I've been buying cheap Chinese manufactured sets of wireless keyboard and mouse every other year for a very long time. I've been through so many that I have noticed that they need less power for each generation.

My current set (SilverCrest MTS2218) takes one AA cell in the mouse; I don't have to recharge for weeks -even if I 'forget' to switch off the mouse. (I use a GP Batteries 2700 series 2600 mAh NiMH cell)

You know, NiMH does run down by itself. In my experience it's charge doesn't last anywhere near as long as NiCd. You might getter better life from a lower capacity NiCd cell. :bolian:
