Actually, the later would only be 00:34:56 7-8-09 (the 0 in 09 in dropped in Europe, or so I've been told.

I'd write today's date 08/07/09 or 8/7/09 if I was feeling lazy - the 0 in 09 would never be dropped.

I never write the 0 in the date. 8/7/9 is how I've been writing today's date, for instance.

We often drop the 0 in 09 when writing notes at work. It's not a widespread thing, but it does happen.

And you call them "zed" which is simply delightful!

When the MJ death news broke, you should have heard the TV newsreaders trying to decide whether to credit the news to "tee-em-zee dot com" (site's native pronounciation, the usual protocol for pronouncing things) or "tee-em-zed dot com" (the natural way they'd say it).
