Am I the only one not caring a bit about this Michael Jackson hype?

No really! -He made a lot of fancy (perhaps even great) contemporary pop music back when I wasn't even interested in pop music any more, Why would I be more than superficially interested in his death now -decades later?

This thread is for people with a similar sentiment.

Luckily I have a good collection of other stuff to watch on my monitors these days when the Sauergurkenzeit is over us and every single channel of tv is filled with the death of the king of pop.

What are you watching instead of live television?

Am I the only one that wants to hit 'Madonna' for getting it wrong? -MJ wasn't "The King" - he was "The King of Pop" - the other title is reserved for the one and only: ELVIS!

Your thoughts please.

Re: Am I the only one not caring a bit about this Michael Jackson hype

I am sick to bloody death of hearing about the memorial service. He was a freakish, deformed pop singer, who, while being a talented performer, was NOT the greatest singer, nor the greatest human being. He was a crazy nutjob obsessed with little boys and was probably stoned out of his sick little mind for the last few years of his life.

He's dead. OK, I got it. I don't need the news to keep telling me he's still dead. And it is completely beyond me why they are making this such a HUGE story. But then, I never understood the Elvis hype, either.

Can we move on now to more important things, like, you know, actual NEWS?

Re: Am I the only one not caring a bit about this Michael Jackson hype

I am just really tired of it. Let the family and fans grieve.. but let the mediacircus stop please.

Re: Am I the only one not caring a bit about this Michael Jackson hype

Don't care about the hype. I feel sorry for his family, and for the life he felt he had to lead to be happy, but beyond that I just can't summon my "give a damn".

Re: Am I the only one not caring a bit about this Michael Jackson hype

Yeah, pretty much what you all said. Hopefully, after today, the media will move on.

Yeah, right. Where's that "beating the dead horse" (no pun intended) emoticon when you need it?

Re: Am I the only one not caring a bit about this Michael Jackson hype

I don't care about it either.

Re: Am I the only one not caring a bit about this Michael Jackson hype

I think the best way to fight the hype is to start more threads about Michael Jackson. :p;)

^ (to LoB) are you a congressman?

Re: Am I the only one not caring a bit about this Michael Jackson hype

Thank you dane and you other guys, I knew there was a reason I liked ya'll.

Yes I am sick and tired of it. I am tired of everyone going on and on about "omghewassogreatIwillmisshimsoooo", of all damn facebook statuses mentioning him, all the newspaper headlines and so on. Even thought I knew that's what would happen the moment I learned he died.

My sentiment remains what it was at that moment though: if he'd died 17 years ago, I might have been upset. As it is he's just been creepy and weird over the majority of that time.

And seriously what was up with that thread in TV and media asking who was the greatest, him or The Beatles? MJ did some great stuff yes, but The Beatles made TONS of great stuff and their influence are beyond compare with MJ's influence.

Re: Am I the only one not caring a bit about this Michael Jackson hype

I also don't care. Shall we carry on k'fetching about how much we don't care about the death of Michael Jackson, thereby feeding into the bloated, festering carcus of media overkill that is the "Michael Jackson Final Moments Coverage?"

Just saying.

I think Locutus of Bored is a congressman.

QFT.

Ps, how are the Iranians doing?

Re: Am I the only one not caring a bit about this Michael Jackson hype

No. He may be iconic. But I don't follow music not to mention I didn't actually know him personally. Most of his fans didn't either.

No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

You mean that dingus Pete King? "I can't stand the Michael Jackson publicity, so I think I'll capitalize on it by uploading a YouTube video bitching about the Michael Jackson publicity. To honor the troops, firefighters, and cops of course." Oy vey.

Nope, but i did ask two questions:
What are you watching instead of live television?
OK, so I do have another thread for that, but
Am I the only one that wants to hit 'Madonna' for getting it wrong?
^That was a real question!

Just saying.
Cool enough!

I just wanted to know if I was alone in this!

Re: Am I the only one not caring a bit about this Michael Jackson hype

Sick and tired here, too. He was a pop icon. His last relevant music came out around 15 years ago. Since then, he's mostly been weird and known for freakish things. While California is bankrupt and laying off people, millions of dollars go down the tube to close freeways and prepare for the funeral. It's all a bit much. Luckily, I haven't been near a TV all day.

Let's move on already. There has to be a missing dog or something. Maybe Angelina Jolie adopted yet another kid? I could sure use another "politician having an affair" story right now.

Re: Am I the only one not caring a bit about this Michael Jackson hype

We could go back to talking about why Palin left office.
