the .... face?
Yes, or I should say the lack of one.
Yeah, I gotta say, when I was a kid I thought that was one of the creepiest things I'd ever see. In a way, it still is.
Heh, it almost reads like a parody of the Goldfinger theme.
Pretty girls, beware of his heart of gooooold...
This heart is cooooold!

Oh thanks GM! I avoided that scene for 30 years now I may have to avoid this forum for 30 years.![]()
Hmm...let me see....Heh, it almost reads like a parody of the Goldfinger theme.
"Golden words he will pour in your EAAAAAAAAAAAAR,
But his lies can't disguise what you FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAR.
For a gollllllllllden girl--knows when he's kissed her--
(THUMP!) It's--the kiss-of-DEATH-from-mis-ter--
"Gooooooooooooooold-finger,
(Wha-WAH-WAH-wah-wah, da-da-da-duuuuuuuuuuuuuuh)
"He LOVES only goooooold....Pretty girls, beware of his heart of gooooold...
This heart is cooooold!
On...ly gooooooooold....
He loves goooooooooold....
ONNNNNNNN-ly gooooooooooooold....
(Dah-dah-DAH-duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh)
HE--LOVES--GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD!!!
(BUM BUH-BUM!)
You know, in the movie James Bond is talking to the girl who was painted gold later. He's getting a chilled bottle of champagne saying something like "Drinking unchilled champagne is just as inappropriate as say, listening to the Beatles without earmuffs." Considering the "Goldfinger" theme song, he's the pot talking about the kettle.

For older folks, it was trendy to bash the boys back then.
Nowadays, Bond would substitute The Backstreet Boys or whatever is popular this week.
Joe, un-with-it

You certainly are 'un-with-it' if you attempt to invoke the Backstreet Boys as an example of what is![]()
But weren't Blish's adaptations based upon actual script drafts that he was given to work from?
Yeah--early drafts, many of them.
Still...you'd think he'd have the good sense to WATCH the episodes as they came out....
What on earth did Spock do to warrant such a song?![]()
Yes, I think it is...Heck, I'm 14 years younger than you Shatmandu, and *I* have no idea what's popular! Backstreet Boys sounds about right
I like this episode for the view into the lives of the crew, but I never liked the character of charlie- he's just plain creepy and frightening looking. Maybe that's the point?
Uhura and Spock's song is lovely, but the lyrics are also creepy. What on earth did Spock do to warrant such a song?![]()
^Yeah, but the Blish Books should probably taken with a BIG chunk o' salt, considering how they contradict practically every single episode of The Original Series...![]()

While I like the overall scene, I've never liked Uhura's song. I just thought it was a bit too weird for me to enjoy. I've always wondered, though, if she were "supposed" to make up those words on the spot (as if, you know, all that were actually happening) or if the song already existed as some sort of folk song that developed on the ship.
