Buying the new uniforms...

By about a tenner ;) My GF looked into it but it wasn't 'cleavagey' enough for her, and she opted to go with a BSG costume for her first dressing up occasion as she'd look a little less insane than the rest of us.

Recognizable; I've tried getting my girlfriend to pre-ordering the women's uniform, but it didn't have enough cleavage for her taste, as well. And the skirt was too long.

Well, maybe your girlfriend can make herself a Councilor Troi dress...

I suggested it once and found out how useless Miss Troi was to anything ;)

I had that expresed too... though I did suggest the TNG corset thats been posted somewhere on these forums a few times and surprisingly she liked that.

Good find! I just got an "I like the red one". Nice. :D

...But if you want a men's costume, just belly up to the bar and they're right here, waiting for you. For God's sake- could be have a little parity here?:rolleyes::rolleyes:
...and I'm assuming ours are more expensive, too?

I think if you get the pants with the shirt, it's about the same. But at least with the men's unis you have the option of just getting the shirt and getting your own black pants. I mean, how hard is it to buy basic black pants?

Those babies are motorcycle pants that'll cost about $160. So...not that cheap.

^No.

And let's not forget that boots are also going to cost anywhere form $100 - $200, depending on what "close enough to screen-accurate" pair one decides to get. Somebody on the RPF estimated a while back that good, quality men's uniform with the proper bells and whistles could cost up to $1000 total.

Has anyone seen the black uniforms like Pike was wearing go on sale yet? Or seen anywhere where I can get a good, quality head-to-toe reference for a drawing I'm working on?

That was the first note I made when I began to plan the outfit. "Not screen accurate. Don't care. No money. Need pockets."

I'm actually glad I didn't start from scratch now... as with my current cash flow issue, I'd like to eat this month

Here is my tailor made "replica" of the new movie uniform, gold command version. Not really as detailed as the real ones are but its a great representation of the new uniform. Comes with the pin and an inner black tunic/dickie as well..

I don't understand why paramount won't simply get one of the uniforms, make it in regular sizes (S, M, L) and let it be manufactured, then sell it as merchandise? They don't have to be cheap if they're accurate and wearable; especially if they're wearable by non-hardcore Trekkies as well.

The uniform honestly doesn't look like it would be that hard to make if somebody could just mass produce the fabric at a reasonable price. Granted, I don't sew but I wouldn't mind learning. But that fabric is the killer. Has anyone tried ironing or printing the pattern onto some spandex? Does it actually work? That still seems like it would be pretty time intensive and might not come out all that great.
