There'd still be a need for Weaver's character if Oscar is a ghostbuster in the third movie.
Hopefully, this is just one of many signs that Scott is genuinely looking to tell an interesting story set in this universe, rather than simply milking the franchise.
Quite frankly, I'll be amazed if the new Ghostbusters movie actually gets made.
The Aliens movie is going to be a prequel, right?
If so, and unless they planned an "old Ripley back-in-time" type storyline (ala Star Trek), Weaver would have no place in the new movie.
I'd love to see this too!The Aliens movie is going to be a prequel, right?

Hey, they could have cloned her again... or for the first time if it's a prequel. What I'd like to see in alien 5 is some background on the crashed ship from the first film. I may be imagining things but iirc that ship was piloted by another alien species other than the xenomorphs.

I'd like them to do something that doesn't involve an excuse to shoe-horn in old characters/actors with flimsy explanations like the overdone ancestor angle and how they happen to look exactly alike but slightly older.

They could always do something "fresh and original" --- like time traveling back to try to prevent the original mission.
